The Hotel Hidalgo was full, so we tried Posada Acueducto and found it to be decent, inexpensive lodging. I would recommend it if you're comfortable in budget accommodations.

We took a room on the second floor for about $38; it had a balcony overlooking the courtyard. The room was somewhat shabby, but clean. The air conditioner was not very powerful, but the ceiling fan helped, although it rattled.

Most of the people staying there are Mexican, often young people or students. They won't necessarily speak English at the desk, but we were treated well and felt safe. The front gate is locked at midnight, I think.

The location is a few blocks from the zocalo on Juarez, near Zaragoza.
