Quinta Zoe
Reviewed April 28, 2013

My wife and I showed up without a reservation, and in spite of the fact that the inn was closed for renovation, David readied a room rather than seeing us search for another place. He is truly a wonderful, generous person we hope to see again. He is in the process of converting the B&B into an Inn, and is creating some more apartment-like rooms from the single rooms, suitable for longer stays. He uses his aerospace engineering backround and enthusiasm to design the infrastructure and rooms to not only be functional, but comfortable and nicely appointed. He took us on a personal mini-tour, and had wonderful suggestions and insight into the area. Over the years he has helped people settle in the area, and has boundless energy for someone who is "retired". Contact him ahead of time to make sure the rooms are ready and available.

We are thrilled to receive your review because we try to meet every expectation of our guests if we possibly can, even the unexpected. David is the "fix-it" man and ensures that the place looks tip-top, cared for in every inch of its expanse. He sees to it that shower heads actually work well and that hot showers are always available - not the case in many places some guests report. In short, he ensures everything is always in good working order and is highly responsive to guest needs. His aim is that guests can rest in comfort and security in our little oasis.

We had a great two day stay in Quinta Zoe. We stayed in the Tulipano room which is a very adequate size. We arrived early since we took a night flight into Mexico City. From there we took a Deluxe bus from the airport to Queretaro. Although it was only 10:30 in the morning David was waiting for us and had our room ready. He is a wonderful host. The location was wonderful, right in the old town, two blocks from the jardin and a short walk to everything. Although breakfast is not served we were welcomed into the dining room with a pot of coffee ready. David sent us a block away to a great bakery where we got rolls and croissants to have with our morning coffee.
We enjoyed our stay and recommend it. Please note Queretaro is very safe.

My husband and I were spending two weeks at Spanish language school in Queretaro, and wanted a comfortable, small hotel in el centro historico convenient to the school. We hit a winner with Quinta Zoe.

From the minute we arrived, David (the owner) made us feel welcome - mi casa es tu casa. We stayed in the Girasole (I saw another review - we had a similarly possessive feeling of "our room"!) - spacious, near the patio fountain so we heard its calming burbble at night, with internet access (my lifeblood of email and Skype), plenty of hot water for showers. We enjoyed coffee and conversation in the morning with David before heading off to school.

David and Zoe (whom we unfortunately didn't meet) had put together a wonderful welcome packet and map for their guests, which we used extensively (museums, restaurants, sites) and never disappointed us. David took me on a tour of town, introduced me to some wonderful shopkeepers and fabulous new\off the beaten path restaurants.

We'd go back (and will) in a heartbeat.

We picked the Quinta Zoe based on the TripAdvisor rating and reviews. It is GREAT! A very comfortable B&B a short walk to the old section of town and all the wonderful sights a tourist wants to see...AND quite. David, the owner, was extremely helpful and provided a typed hand out with all kinds of useful information about local shopping, museums, places to visit and other things a first time visitor to Queretaro should know. They even offer FREE phone service for calls to the USA. If we return to Queretao we will definaqtley stay at the Quintqa Zoe.

Room Tip: We were in Room 3 and it was very good. We did not see the other rooms.

Out third visit to Queretaro and Quinta Zoe proved to us you can go back even more than once. A warm welcome from David and we were quickly settled into 'our' room, the Amapola. It is a big room, perfect for a longer stay. We felt right at home putting all our things in their usual place. Although it fronts right on the street, noise never seemed to be a problem, even on weekends.
We were lucky to have our son and his girlfriend join us for a week on this trip - their room was the Girasol, a room with great Mexican 'flavour', a big window opening onto the patio where the fountain bubbled away and the night lights created a romantic feel. Time spent on the terrace during the warm afternoons and at night to see the stars and moon and visits with David thrown in were great. Having Zoe arrive before we left made our whole visit even better. They have an incredible ability to make people feel at home.
Add this to Quinta Zoe's perfect location in El Centro, within walking distance of five plazas where excellent food and wonderful music abound, and you have a great spot to stay in Queretaro. The city's World Heritage Site designation is well-deserved as is its reputation for being the cleanest city in Mexico. It's within easy bus travel to other colonial cities on Mexico's central plateau.
Yes, a fourth visit is likely in a year or two...and it will be spent at Quinta Zoe!

This was our first trip to Mexico and really did not want to go to the usual "tourist" towns. We really enjoy historical and cultural vacations and finding out that Queretaro was a UNESCO World Heritage site helped to make the decision. Finding the Quinta Zoe was another wonderful find. From the first email to Zoe we felt confident that we had made the right decision. We stayed in the Domo room which was immaculate, beautifully decorated, quiet, with its own little terrace. Zoe and David were the perfect hosts, giving us all the information we needed regarding places to see, the best restaurants, and how to get around. We really had a wonderful time and would love to visit the beautiful town of Queretaro and the lovely Quinta Zoe again soon. Thanks again Zoe and David!

Like most Mexican places, the outside appears quite basic, and the real show happens inside. Quinta Zoe is a perfect example - the plain outside door on the street leads into a calm shady outdoor patio and a series of beautiful rental rooms. We stayed for three nights in #3 (in the centre): large room (high-ceilings, fan, opening windows with screens) with very comfortable king bed and the best sheet/pillow linen we experienced in 3 weeks in Mexico. One firm pillow was replaced with a softer one when we asked for that. The bathroom was compact - but had a nightlight, lots of hot water, and big soft thirsty towels. The fan in the bathroom was noisy. A large blue plastic barrel-like container of purified water is available to guests at all times - so we could refill our little bottles whenever needed.
It's not a B&B, but comes with an offer for morning coffee or tea in the main kitchen - which also had a series of books, map and guides for the area. The host was great - very personable and welcoming. He easily answered all our questions and gave great advice about recommended restaurants, and highlights of the city. Queretaro is a very safe city with lots of industry - but travellers will want to stay here in the historic centre.
Quinta Zoe was rebuilt from the ground up not too long ago, so looks brand new, has modern wiring and plumbing, and is run by ex-pat Americans who understand the needs of international visitors. Some of the other guests had returned there for years and it's easy to understand why. The location is ideal with great access (on foot) to people-filled squares, all variety of dining and shopping. I'd definitely return here.
