This museum covers the history of Queretero and environs from pre-Hispanic times up through the Mexican Revolution. As a history buff, I found it very thoroughly detailed with artifacts, art and written explanations. I speak/read Spanish, but the explanations are only in Spanish which I imagine would be very frustrating for a non-Spanish reader.

While I wish signage had been in English, too, it was still a really nice museum. I learned a lot of the rich history of Queretaro there.

This is one of the most gorgeus convents in this world heritage city. The Franciscan Convent.

It has been abandoned but through consistent rehabilitation, today is a very beatiful and modern museum.

It tell us about history of Queretaro since prehispanic times up to the revolution.

The "patios" and gardens are very beautiful.

You can also see how use to be the life of the monks in this convent.

The Museo Regional offers a very thorough presentation of Mexican history with excellent maps, documents and articles from each period along with lots of information. Everything is in Spanish so an English-only visitor should try to make arrangements for a tour -- perhaps a tourist kiosk in the plaza could help. It would definitely be worth the effort. (By the way, the regional museum in Guanajuato is also a must for any history buff.) The museum also hosts a steady stream of music concerts and other events and has a good bulletin board listing cultural events in the city.

This excellent museum, immediately to the south of the Templo de San Francisco, does not receive the attention it deserves from foreign travelers. The ground floor has exhibits of pre Hispanic Mexico, while the second floor has great exhibits of Queretaro's critical role in the Mexican independence movement. Everything in the museum is in Spanish. Too bad that signage is not also in English.
