“Jewel on the Lower Zambezi”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Since the quite recent renovations and upgrading of Baines River Lodge this has to be one of the Lower Zambezi's quiet achievers. In a discrete and unpretentious setting the lodge exudes understated quality and elegance. The whole experience is hard to beat even for the experienced safari enthusiast or avid fisherman. Management and staff work tirelessly to meet and exceed every expectation but for the inexperienced the experience is likely to be one never to be forgotten. Food is of very good quality, well balanced and well delivered by Jane who shares a passion for what she does in the kitchens. Debbie, Jane and Scott are all locally experienced with a well rounded knowledge of nature, fauna and flora and the great variety of large animals which only Africa provides and the experienced safari and boat guides share the same enthusiasm, knowledge and passion. The fishing and game drives combine to make the experience very memorble and the canoeing adds a quiet serenity to the activities on offer. If an African born and bred guest can feel such enthusiasm over such a great holiday then Baines River Camp is the equivalent of 'The Jewel on The Nile'. We will be back at Baines in 2013 - maybe not once but twice!

The staff at Baines is so helpful even before you get to Africa! They will help you with all of your needs and are so knowledgeable! The guides are fantastic. I stayed there for a week and it was beautiful. The game drives, boat rides and canoeing were great. One of the best things about this place is how far away it is from everything else. Its not like the other safaris where you are looking at an animal with 4 other vehicles and a ton of folks.

The animals are beautiful, the lodge is beautiful and the trip will be fantastic!

My husband and I took our daughters ages 15 & 18 and we all agree that Baines' River Camp is exceptional! All of the elements of the "camp" were fantastic! The staff was always there with a smile and made all of our excursions a great experience. The room was beautiful and everything was very clean. The staff was open to whatever we wanted to do that day. Whether it was fishing, safari, or a little of both, they were very accomodating.
