Mfuwe Lodge - The Bushcamp Company
Certificate of Excellence

I just finished my third stay at the lodge and my experience just keeps getting better and better. The staff that I've gotten to know over the last 3 years is always impeccable, friendly, fun and makes sure that every person on our group trips for Dazzle Africa are completely taken care of...the Wildlife flourishes in front of us while sitting on the deck or in the pool - watching elephants, zebras, warthogs and more meander through the lodge grasses or the valley. Go to Mfuwe Lodge and relax at the Spa, have a Mosi in the pool, adventure on Safari with incredible guides and see wildlife that you can't see anywhere else in the world up close and personal. The most challenging part is leaving!

This was my 3rd trip to Mfuwe and it never disappoints - from the thoughtful, helpful management, caring friendly staff and knowledgeable and safe guides! We brought 13 friends this year and all had positive experiences. The food is top notch, setting idyllic, accommodations stellar. I can't wait to return next year :)

We spent 8 nights at Mfuwe, with two of them at Bilimungwe, and loved every minute of our stay at the lodge. From the minute we arrived Amy and the rest of the staff were amazing. They are very attentive and make you feel like you are part of a family. We were able to go out on a quick night drive the evening we arrived before our dinner. The food was incredible and you definitely do not go hungry during your stay here. The pool over looks the valley so you can sit there during the afternoon rest and watch the animals going by or coming to get a drink of water. The first couple nights we stayed in a room overlooking the valley and then the last couple of nights we were in a room near the hippo pond. The rooms are beautiful with private decks and the showers have blinds that open so you can watch the animals. The room overlooking the valley was my favorite because we got to enjoy the elephants, we even had them walk past our room from the property into the valley.

Our guide during our trip was Kelvin, he was absolutely wonderful. We did both the driving and a walking safari with him. He is very knowledgeable and you can tell he truly enjoys what he does. The safaris were great, we saw lots of animals and could stop and take pictures whenever we wanted, never felt like we were rushed. The covered vehicle for our safari was a great bonus. We noticed during our drives that not all the different lodges had covered vehicles. Have some shade and protection from low hanging branches was wonderful.

We spent one afternoon at the spa, I got a 90 minute massage and a facial. Both were wonderful and relaxing. The spa overlooks the hippo pond and has a great breeze going through it.

On our last day we finally got to see the elephants walk in reception!

I would absolutely recommend a visit to Mfuwe Lodge.

If you've travelled to Mfuwe, you want to see wildlife -- and you will -- but so will many other guests who will join you there. The facility is beautiful, wildlife is abundant on the premises, and guards insist on escorting everyone to their lodging after sundown. Lisa or Luci greeted us at the front steps with ice cold towels to freshen up. Mfuwe also provides complimentary laundry service.

Chalets are nicely decorated, with crisp linens and lush towels. We appreciated the steel shutters that provided fresh air and a good measure of protection. Most have a terrace that overlooks a pond or the riverside watering hole. There is also a lovely infinity pool and poolside lounges but the water wasn't particularly inviting. Their guides are very knowledgeable and engaging, especially Peter and Paxson.

The food was plentiful, but the menu was somewhat limited. We were surprised upon checkout to find that the bar charged for alcohol AND mixers for each cocktail served. Ozzie is a very entertaining bartender, and the complimentary hors d'hoeuvres were delicious.

If you're lucky, you'll see elephants come through the lobby during the rainy season to enjoy fruit from a tree in their open foyer.

Room Tip: During the rainy season, look for a room facing the river; ask for the hippo pond during the dry sea...

Mfuwe Lodge is a good safari attraction in Zambia. The food was superb. The staff were friendly. We viewed all the animals in the Game park from Lions, leopards, hyenas, hippos just to mention but a few. Our chalet overlooked the lagoon where every minute was spent viewing the beautiful elephants moving in families of five or so, the impalas, oh gosh I would love to go back again around the same season when there is too little water. Animals are close by when it is during the dry season like August to October or early November. We breathed the natural fresh air after a long time. I will go on and on, it is beautiful.

Room Tip: Rooms on the western side are nice in that the balcony over looks the lagoon where animals frequentl...

Mufuwe is a great place for some of the best safari experiences in Africa. Chalets are modern, yet still feel adventerous, with incredible views of animals right from your deck. Food wasn't quite as good as the last time I was there, but was at their busiest season this time. To really capture the lodge and game experience, I would recommend 3 full days.

Mfuwe Lodge is the perfect introduction to the bush camping experience at South Luangwa National Park, but the word "camping" is inadequate to describe the luxurious surroundings and incredibly fresh and well prepared food. The attentive staff, Lucy, Lisa and Amy, and the friendly and well-informed guide Jason reflect an attention to visitor comfort and satisfaction that would be noteworthy anywhere in the world, much less in the heart of Zambia's bush. Janet and I and our friends Steve and Alison had a great experience and recommend it without reservation to any contemporary would-be African explorers. Oh yes, and all this luxury is accompanied by close-up experiences with lions, leopards, elephants, hippos and more colorful birds than I can possibly remember.
