Superb

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 27, 2016via mobile
I stayed for a couple of nights as part of the "Rivers and Rainbow" package in the emerald season (ie rains).

It is a magical place with fantastic accommodation, food and service - the chalets are enormous with their own plunge pool, river front views and even innovative and effective aircon over the bed.

The high quality NCS guiding was much in abundance as soon as I crossed over the river to start my game drives.

This is the most luxurious camp I have ever stayed at and whilst I probably prefer the more relaxed (authentic?) bush camps that NCS runs a little bit of luxury every now and then is most welcome!

Dear AHZambia, we're so pleased you got to experience Zambia's green season. It's personally one of my favourite times of the year where the animals are fat and happy! And it's great to hear you love our camps further into the heart of the park; I do agree that a little bit of luxury now and again is also quite a treat!

Our stay at the Chinzombo Lodge was absolutely magical! The setting was stunning and the camp beyond beautiful, with an incredible attention to detail wherever you looked. The same goes for the food - every meal was without exception mouth-wateringly delicious. The staff, lead by the amazing Kolo, was incredibly kind and attentive. Not only were they so helpful and fulfilled all our wishes, there was a wonderful family feel amongst the staff and the guests, which really set this camp apart from other places. Getting to know some of the staff was a wonderful part of the stay. Last but not least, the tours into the bush were such a treat with the amazing Bryan, who shared his incredible knowledge with us as well as his passion for wildlife. All in all: we've travelled quite a bit in southern Africa, but this was one of the best camps we have ever been to!

    Dear Roland,

It was such a pleasure to host you last week and thanks for sharing your stories from your motorcycle trip around Southern Africa. We wish you a wonderful rest of your journey and look forward to you coming back; you missed the moon rising over a herd of bull elephants last night! Our doors are always open for you.

All the best from the South Luangwa.

Everyone was so welcoming, knowledgable and treated us like family, my 3 year old daughter misses them. The location was perfect, animals everywhere, the giant green trees, incredible view and a cool breeze from the river. The food was incredible, I loved all the salads at lunch, they have a garden to grow vegetables, bake their own bread, make their own pasta, cater to all dietary requirements. We were so spoiled. The villas and the lodge are so beautifully done, you feel like you are in a travel magazine. It's crazy this place exists, better than the photos. And when you leave to go on safari, you are in the coolest land rovers with the BEST guides in Africa. Too good to be true.

This was our second visit to South Luangwa with Norman Carr Safaris - having been in the dry season before we always wanted to return in the wet (green season) and we were not disappointed. Such amazing change in the landscape with so many hues of green against dramatic skies. Yes it did rain but nothing to detract from the utter enjoyment that is the NCS safari experience - John our guide was wonderful and made the drives a joy, we saw far more game than we'd expected with the animals dispersing with the abundance of water including some incredible leopard sightings!! Also the birds and their song were fantastic and a lullaby of a frog chorus to send you off to sleep each night.

Chinzombo was a real treat - the villas are spacious and beautifully appointed with an outside deck and plunge pool and a wonderful view over the river. Yaliwe and her fabulous team take the greatest of care to make sure you've everything you need and the food is amazing. Christmas lunch while watching hippos, impala, zebra, baboons etc do their things was fantastic and the Christmas eve carol service in the bush with elephants grazing the grassland behind was incredible.

Norman Carr simply know know to go the extra mile to make a visit special and our arrival typified this. While others were being jammed into mini buses with their luggage in 30 degree heat and driven off in a cloud of dust. We were greeted by John with cold beers, a comfortable open sided land rover to ourselves and a drive at a pace to allow you to take in the passing scenery of Zambian life.

Also as far as I could see NCS were the only safari operators who as well as your expert guide provided an armed park ranger on all game viewing activities. Not that the 'armed' services were ever called into play but it does give you a little more comfort when you've two folks looking out for both yours and the animals welfare.

Thank you NCS and Chinzombo for another memorable stay!

It was such a pleasure you have you back! Christmas is certainly a special time here and the carols at Kalawani Pan do lend a festive air, even though our European team and friends complain that it should be cold at Christmas!

The green season (we like to call it our secret season) is traditionally fabulous for leopard so I'm glad it didn't disappoint.

My fiance and I recently spent 3 nights at Chinzombo and we were blown away by the simple elegance of the camp. Our chalet was perfectly comfortable -- equipped with private plunge pool, air conditioning, and a spacious bathtub -- and we opted out of some game drives to enjoy bird and game watching from our verandah. The manager and staff were wonderful and appropriately attentive: they checked in with us, offered lovely cocktails from the bar, and gave us our space to absorb the peace and quiet of the camp. Our game drives were eventful and wonderful -- but what else can you expect from the South Luangwa! With Abraham as our guide, we were also attuned to the smaller wonders of the bush: the returning cuckoos and kingfishers, and the beautiful vegetation bursting to life after the first major rains. A truly special experience and one we would recommend to anyone who enjoys an easy, sophisticated perspective on one of the most spectacular safari destinations.

Room tip: All room seemed equally lovely
