We returned here for 4 nights having previously visited 3 years ago. The accommodation, staff, catering and service is amazing. You cannot fault anything about this experience. The manager, Kiki is a terrific host and the staff cannot do enough to make your stay as perfect as possible. The animal sightings were amazing with leopards seen on every drive together with all the big 5. Guides are so knowledgeable and make it a truly memorable experience. I would highly recommend.

My wife and I have been to Africa on Safari 5 previous times. Never had so much time with leopards. Watched one climb tree to watch impalas nearby.
Camp not as luxurious as some, but staff very attentive.
A small pond on the grounds had a resident hippo and was visited by elephants—up close.
Situated on banks of Luangwa river, providing great views of hippos and crocodiles.

Park is home to the rare Thorncroft giraffe. Lots of elephants. Large lion pride called “Hollywood” pride.

Nkwali was our first stop on a ten day safari/beach break in Zambia and Malawi and couldn’t have provided a more enjoyable introduction to the wildlife and habitats of the South Luangwa Valley.

The camp itself is a 45 minute drive from the nearest airport at Mfuwe, a trip which provides an insight into the vibrant but challenging environment in which the local communities live. On arrival you are met by a well-ordered and beautiful set-up, situated in a clearing in the forest, surrounded as you would expect by the sights and sounds of the local wildlife (indeed on one occasion the wildlife came to us , and elephant walking right through where we were having lunch and proceeding to make itself at home for the next couple of hours).

While the owners of the camp make a point of describing it as ‘modest’, there really isn’t anything more you could ask for – each hut is beautifully furnished with a big (big) double bed, and well-appointed open air bathroom with double shower. The front of the hut opens out onto the river which runs alongside the camp, as a result of which the area is awash with hippos (more evident from their noises and wanderings during the night than the day). And the food and drink on offer is excellent and plentiful.

The safari experience at Nkwali is excellent - having traversed the river by barge, groups of no more than four go out in a land-cruiser accompanied by an expert guide able to spot all manner of wildlife which would otherwise go unnoticed – during our time, with the help of our guide Pious, we saw lions, leopards, elephants and giraffes as well as a wide range of antelope. Morning and afternoon/night safaris offer something quite distinct from each other, depending on which species are at their most active at that time of the day.

The staff, led by host Sorrell, are unfailingly friendly, polite and helpful, doing all they can to make your stay a comfortable and rewarding one.

Definitely highly recommended.

Our stay at the lovely Nkwali lodge in Zambia was great fun and thanks to Pious our excellent guide we saw 3 leopards and also had amazing sightings of wild dogs. All the game drives were excellent and we really enjoyed our walking safari as well. The food and accommodation are really good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Thank you very much to Kiki, Sorrel and all the team at Nkwali for such a lovely time, great fun and excellent game viewing.

We visited Nkwali as a 4 night stay to start our honeymoon in Africa and loved the experience from start to finish! The game drives were very well organised and we were extremely impressed with both the service and the animals we managed to see on safari. We were also pleasantly surprised by the food and dining experience at Nkwali; considering the camp is in the middle of the bush the food was incredible and the sundowners in the evening were always special too. Our host, Sorrel made a big effort to make sure everything on our honeymoon went smoothly and was always available for any query. Kiki along with the team were also great around the camp and our guide, Obi was very knowledgable and offered such amazing insight to every game drive during our stay. Thank you for making our honeymoon so special!
