Nkwali is on the oopsite shore to the park so each drive starts with a river trip between the pods of hippopotami. The it is into the vehicles and start looking for game. Whilst the driver will see far more than you, the competitive instinct kicks in and everybody on the vehicle (between 2 and 4) starts trying to see something. Sometimes this is just a squirrel but sometimes it can be a rare honey badger, bushy mongoose or genet. We saw lions (hunting), leopards and wild dogs. Porcupines, elephant shrews, striped mongoose, hyena, zebras, etc filled out the days. back at the camp the local elephant came to bathe in the water hole, along with the two terrapins, monitor lizards and multiple birds. The beach was acting as the nursery for the baby baboons and the water was so still I got some amazing reflections pictures.

Room Tip: all the rooms are amazing!

I absolutely love staying at Nkwali as the staff are so great at making you feel part of their family. Rooms are excellent with sweeping views of the river and though they have an outdoorsy feel to them, they are still very safe and well kept with excellent amenities. Wildlife viewing is superb with phenomenal leopard sightings throughout the year. The guides are highly qualified and the management and staff go to great lengths to make you feel special - such as surprise bush breakfasts! A lot of wildlife walks through camp at night such as the lionesses who caught a warthog on the lawn while we were there! The pool is gorgeously cool on a hot day and meals are delicious!
Highly recommended and looking forward to returning again.

The camp is set right on the river with Hippos bellowing occasionally and animals can stroll through the camp as it is all open. The Bar and lounge area are set up under a thatch roof that surrounds a huge mahogany tree and this is where we gathered every night before dinner and for tea in the afternoons before our evening game drive. The rooms are also thatched around trees with mud walls and an open front that is locked at night with metal bars and a curtain. The open bathroom is fantastic with double showers and sinks. Every morning we would have breakfast around the fire and head out for our morning drive. Kiki was our guide for the four days and was incredible - his knowledge and his irresistible personality made our drives the best we have ever had. South Luangwa has a large leopard pollution and we saw 5 different ones over the 4 days. Another rare sight is wild dogs and there were 15 of them and we saw them almost every day but the highlight was when they had their kill taken from them by Hyenas - what a drama to witness, it was incredible. I highly recommend this camp the amount of game and the service from all of the staff was top notch. Harriet was the hostess during our stay and she was great. The food was outstanding. We will definitely come back here one day - we loved it.

A lovely camp run by Daudi who is also a first class guide. Game viewing was excellent and done in a very ethical way. Super place to stay. Rooms are spacious. Not for people who are afraid of creepy crawlies or monkeys playing all night in the trees or mice running round the room. But this is Africa and I for one love it.

During our this year’s holiday we stayed at Robin’s House just next door to Nkwali from 30th May 2015 till 2nd June 2015.

Robin’s House is a real home. Every moment of our stay was a pleasure not only because of the great location, the homely accommodation and the exciting activities. Each team member contributed a lot to make our stay so enjoyable and unforgettable. The welcome was warm and friendly and we were looked after with care. All our needs and wishes were always accommodated.

Thank you to you Obi for spending so much time with us and for explaining so many things about your country, life in Zambia and nature. Loti and Felix, thanks for taking such good care of us. Thanks Caro for your support. And of course thank you to all the other staff members who looked after us so well.
Last but not least thanks to you Emily for your welcome and especially for your “It’s Monday”-Newsletter. Every week we are looking forward to all the new stories you have to tell.

The memories are vivid in our minds and we are looking forward to our next visit to Robin’s House and to meeting you all again.

Good bye for now,
Renate and Horst
