Bilimungwe is a truly special experience, even the drive to get there is all part of the fun - we saw 3 lions as well as a host of other wildlife on the way. The camp itself has a great location surrounding a watering hole where you regularly see elephants and other animals, you can even shower outside. Normally you eat delicious meals with the other guests and your guide, which is great fun; on one of the nights we were surprised with a private candlelit dinner on our veranda.

The best part of all of the camps is the walking safaris, this is when you really get to see South Luangwa National Park at it's best. The landscape is stunning and the terrain is perfect. Having visited many of the big parks in Africa, this one is easily the best.

It cannot get any better than Bilimungwe for me. I loved the 3 nights we spent there. The watering hole was exciting, the food better than 5 star dining in the U.S. and the walks and drives incredible. The staff are wonderful and having the African wild dogs come into camp a real treat.

Room Tip: My group thought all of the rooms were great.

We stayed in Bilimungwe Bushcamp for 3 nights the first part of June, 2013. We were a group of 6 and had then entire camp to ourselves, except for the excellent staff. The accommodations were great. I loved the outside shower that came from a carved tree branch. The food was all first rate and the animals were amazing. We were also lucky enough to run into a pack of wild dogs (which is the 2nd most endangered carnivore in Africa). Our guide was Manda who had been selected as International guide of the year in 2006. He was superb. If you ever have a chance to stay at Bilimungwe - Do It.

Room Tip: With only 4 tents to stay in they are all luxurious and very comfortable. You can't go wrong.

Billimungwe! What a treat! Our camp director treated us first class from the minute we stepped off the jeep until we left. No detail was overlooked. The accommodations were luxurious and extremely comfortable. Waking up to hear a hippo swimming in the night and watching the mother elephant with her adolescent and baby elephant were our highlights. Or maybe it was seeing the Lions and his two females, or "Alice" the leopard on her morning stroll...every moment and every day was a new adventure. Sundowners in the river and high tea were always a treat too! The BushCamp Company is stellar in both service and in treatment of their employees. They support the local schools and they also go above and beyond in caring for their employees, paying their children's school fees and providing both financial and emotional support during times of loss. Our goal is to return to every bushcamp, because they are each a different experience, each far exceeding our expectations!

Have just returned from a fantastic honeymoon in South Luangwa having stayed with Bushcamp Company at a number of their camps
For me the highlight was Bilimungwe having spent some time there a few years ago prior to the rebuild - although the new bilimungwe is bigger and more luxurious then before it has not lost any of its natural bush charm - it is just the most fantastic place to spend time in the Bush

The Bushcamp Company have been very smart in their placement of camps along the Luangwa River in the central to southern area of South Luangwa - with all the camps spread along the same section of river BCC has this area pretty much exclusively to themselves - its almost like a private concession in a most beautiful section of the park over looking not only the Luangwa (and or Kapamba) rivers but also the Chindeni hills forming the eastern escarpment of the Luangwa Valley.

I noted that pretty much all of the camps have received a face lift since my last visit (2004) and they are all absolutely stunning in terms of their placement and their natural architectural beauty - all very different but they all share that affinity with the bush that enables them to blend in and sit comfortably in their natural surroundings

Chamilandu - Beautiful grass and thatch chalets mounted on stilts right on the edge of the raised banks of the Luangwa river with the Chindeni Hills as a backdrop and surrounded by beautiful towering Jackalberry and Sausage tress giving a shady and cosy feel to the luxurious finishings in the chalets -a lovely simple grass dining and bar area to quietly sit and read in the afternoons if like me you dont like to snooze

Chindeni - fantastic new tents - larger and more luxurious than before - this time overlooking an oxbox lagoon of the Luangwa with great bird life as well as mammal activity coming to drink

Kapamba - last time i was there this was a new camp - it has since improved with age as surrounding trees have come of age and a few minor improvements have been made - love the huge sunken bath tubs that can be either a hot tub in the evenings or a cooling plunge pool in the hot afternoons of September October November

I have left Bilimungwe until last as this was always my favourite of the camps and this remains true now that i have experienced the new Bilimungwe which sits so snugly under the shade of a huge Natal Mahogony and a Winterthorn that driving up in the day time you will not see it until you are almost right under the said tree and in camp - at night time just a few hurricane lanterns glinting through gaps in the trees will give it away as you come back from your night drives
The new rooms and decks are fantastic with indoor and outdoor showers - three times in three days I was able to take an outdoor shower with a herd of elephant bathing in the lagoon / watering hole behind me - not more than twenty metres away - a truly fantastic feeling and what safari memories are made of

Staff at all of the camps were great and the food was fantastic - especially given the locations we found ourselves in - i can honestly say that the standard of food out here in the bush miles away from anywhere is actually better than some city locations i have eaten in - great work by all concerned as logistics cannot be easy

Our guides were all excellent with great factual knowledge of our surrounding flora and fauna but also full of stories and anecdotes that made listening fun and interesting

Ive been to many places n Africa but this place is special and to me will always be special - thanks to BCC for making it even more so

Room Tip: All rooms are great

This is one of 4 Bushcamp Company properties I have stayed in, and they are all amazing. Each one is different, and I'm glad I'm slowly experiencing them all. It would be too easy to return to the same one!
Originally we were trying to stay at Chamilandu for 7 nights, but due to availability, had to split our visit to 2 nights at Bili and 5 nights at Chamilandu. Frankly a week in each would have been brilliant - but a little extravagant!
Although pricing may seem a little expensive, I can say that the value is there. You are in a remote camp (not on a "super highway" for tourist vehicles), camps are small, they are not fenced, all food is included (the food is bountiful & wonderful), drinks are included, you are able to game drive after sundown (but not too long), I have never been in a vehicle with more than 4 guests (no-one stuck in the middle!) & the wildlife is on your doorstep.
Bili was recently refurbished, and I felt a little over-awed by the size, fittings & quality of our chalet - but not for long! Although I'm probably more comfortable in rustic settings, iI found it all too easy to get used to Bili!
All staff were wonderful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I have spent a bit of time travelling in Africa and never tire of hearing guides share their knowledge & experiences - this is what personalizes my visit - and they do it very well at Bili.
The Bushcamp Company specialize in game walks, and I highly recommend participating in the morning walks if you can. I'm very partial to an early morning game drive, however nothing beats being up close and personal with the wildlife and their habitat on a walk.
All the chalets at Bilimungwe overlook a waterhole, so during siesta you can just sit on your balcony and watch the passing parade, or even watch from your bed!
Our visit was in Aug12 when the weather was perfect, however I suspect one could feel the heat at this camp in the hotter months.
2 nights was not enough at Bilimungwe,so perhaps a return visit might be in order!

Had a fabulous bushcamp experience, staying for 3 nights in a superb chalet. Loads of wildlife visiting the emerald lagoon and wonderful walking and driving safaris. The camp manager, guide, spotter etc were all welcoming and so knowledgeable. The whole experience was invigorating and relaxing! Cannot wait to return.
