“Safari with the luxury touch”

We have just had the holiday of a lifetime at two of Robin Pope's Lodges in the South Luangwa National Park. We started at Nkwali camp with brilliant guides and fantastic accommodation. We were met from Mfuwe airport and had a magical drive as the sun set to the Lodge, Food was excellent, accommodation could not be faulted and for the next four days the camp staff seemed to anticipate our every need. The 5.30am breakfasts were a shock, but well worth it for the early game drives before the full heat of the day. We had some amazing game drives with unbelievably knowledgeable local guides. By 10.30am to 11.00 we were back in camp for a very tasty lunch at about 11.30. Then a welcome siesta with a chance to see all sorts of game, vervet monkeys, baboon, mongooses, Puku antelope Water Buck and much more that just roams around the camp grounds. Just magical. Our next lodge at Nsefu was going to have to be great to top this. But it almost managed it! Again a wonderful setting on the Luangwa River, fantastic accommodation and superb local guides.

Here we did a couple of walking safaris as well as more game drives and again they were wonderful. And at both camps they kept delighting us with wonderful surprizes. We won't spoil it for others but believe me just as you think it couldn't get any better, it did.

It was just an unforgettable experience, being cossetted and spoilt as the experiences just kept coming. Just magical. Thanks to all concerned.

We spent five nights on the mobile camps walking safari along the Mupamadzi River in the north of South Luangwa NP. The walking safari is quite different to vehicle-based, the animals stay much further away, but the excitement of seeing them while on foot is something great. I'll never forget seeing lions watching us from the thicket before growling & running off. As usual the guides are incredibly knowledgeable (we had Bertram). You'll learn so much about the different parts of the ecosystem & see parts of the park which are away from any roads. The camp is very comfortable, the food wonderful & quite amazing considering how it's prepared over a fire or in an oven dug into the ground, Christabel runs an excellent camp. I've been lucky to go on vehicle-based safaris many times, but a walking safari is very different & intense experience. I recommend it to anyone who loves being in the bush.

Going on an African safari was on my bucket list and Robin Pope Zambia made it happen for me. From beginning to end, everything was amazing. It was like luxury camping. We woke up facing the river, listening to the hippos call every morning. The food was great, the staff was nothing but accomodating, knowledgable, and fun to be around. We lounged in the infinity pool as monkeys ran around us and elephants grazed just a yards away. The safari itself was unreal and the guides were patient and knew everything there was to know- we even got to see the wild dog packs (rare I heard). We even had wine and cheese overlooking the sunset on the mountaintop at the end of our day. One day the staff met us in the park near the monkey trees and cooked us a picnic lunch! I have the most amazing pictures, but even those don't do this trip justice. I could not recommend this adventure more. Do yourself a favor and just go- you will be so happy you did. (We went in April 2011 and it was right around rainy season but it did not rain for us).

A very good lodge and excellent hospitality by staff who are at your service all the time . They give two safaris and best part is they ask you which drink would you prefer to carried on the the stop over for refreshment at the park . You can choose your drink .

Further very good veg food was prepared by the chef each day and breakfast is continental in open air facing south lungwa river .

The property is not a five star executive service it is a safari lodge but the staff hospitality is excellent . The staff is well experienced on safari and they know each species the wealth of knowledge the driver carries is very well versed . The driver not only knows the names of the species but also the habits . For birds and mammals and reptiles . Additional driver observes all protocols in the park and does not interfere with other spectators watching the animal . The staff are so much respective and are very careful when speaking . They will think for a while before they reply you . This is a very good training they have been given .

Room Tip: Choose facing south lungwa river . The view is magnificent .

I spent 3 days at River Camp and 3 days at Nkwali, and it was incredible. The accommodations are fantastic, spacious, private, the food is excellent. At River Camp, Trudy the hostess really makes sur that everything is perfect as if we were guests in her own house. The guides are excellent, (yeah for Freddy!). The schedule is not tightly packed: we have time to breath, this is still vacation. My only wish... is that I would have stayed there longer!

Just completed a 4,5 day (4 - 8 Aug 12) walking safari under the guidance of Deb Tittle (RPS). It was an unforgettable experience and to be absolutely recommended if you are looking for an adventure with lots and lots to learn regarding to Africa's wildlife secrets.

Deb is an excellent guide with years of experience, 100% attuned with her team and totally focused on her guests. Safety was the first and utmost consideration but did not deter us from tracking (and regularly sighting) lions for 2 days. Each sign, track and hint of activity was pointed-out, clearly described and explained in context.

We were accommodated in rustic but very comfortable fly-camps in tents pitched in the most picturesque positions, allowing for safety and privacy. Beautiful beds, linen and all, with amenities closely on hand made for great camps in totally different settings each of the 4 nights we spent on the trek.

The mobile bar with whatever you could wish for and well decorated dining tables, hot showers on call (within 5 minutes of Deb's "shower whistle") and freshly dug toilets, all in total bush-privacy, rounded-off a perfect experience.

The support team was absolutely sterling in their attentiveness, yet virtually invisible. It truly felt as if we were the only people in Africa throughout the walk.

If you are looking for 5-star luxury and "bling" - this is not it. If you are after an experience where you will truly learn about the African bush, being served sumptuous meals of the highest quality and having cake in the veldt with your tea, do consider this adventure with RPS.

Room Tip: All tents have views.....

We stayed in their Nkwali camp for a couple of nights then did a 5 night walking safari in the north of the camp before returning to stay at Nsefu camp (while Tena Tena is being moved slightly).

All were great but the walking safari is superb - there were just three of us and one was made to feel to feel special. What really makes that stand out out though is the way that we got close to 'nature' - stalking animals, analysis droppings (!), learning tracks, examining termit nests etc, and of course sighting animals!

Room Tip: Just a tent but very clean and in good condition with a proper mattress on a camp bed.
