“Good location for cheap camping outside the park”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Camped here for one night on my way down to Malawi. It's a large site, with a nice bar and pool area, and it all fronts the river with great views across to the park. Free wifi is available which is a huge plus. Camping charges are reasonable, especially given that it's right outside a world famous national park.

Food is a little pricey and very underwhelming; the burger was a big disappointment. Breakfast was a little bit better, and they definitely score points for serving real coffee. Ablution facilities were dirty, overcrowded and poorly mmaintained (one shower out of three not working, and no hot water).

I feel bad being upset at this, but the site was heavily crowded with overlander buses and tents. Given the location and reputation, I was expecting it, but I'd just come through the North park and the Nsefu sector which were beautiful and amazingly tranquil by comparison. It felt like going from being the only person in a thousand miles (I was the only guest at my previous two campsites) to jumping into some college bar, just in a nice setting. If you have the independence/budget, go somewhere else, but if you're on a budget (or want to hang out with teenagers) Croc Valley is perfectly OK.

It was last minute that I decided to take a safari and stay at Croc Valley as I was concerned about high cost of a safari. But I found other travellers heading to the camp so I decide to give it a go.
I booked a "dorm" which was fantastic, two single beds in a thatched hut with a stunning simple bathroom and shower, out door style in a bamboo enclosed structure. Hot water and pressure were great.
Pool cold and a weird lay out but very refreshing, food good and value was there.

Watching the hippos, crocs and other animals in the the river was mesmerizing.

The staff were all outstanding, the concierge ( I think was Herbert) could not have been more helpful or friendly. Arranging transport for me back to Chipata and securing the front seat.

Safaris great and good value with the exception of the night drive. I think it should have left a hour earlier as most of the time were just driving in the dark without seeing much but the usuals and a owl. But was impressed with the facilities and good value all around.
Would visit again for sure!

Glad you enjoyed and hope to see you back again in the near future!
The night drives are always a surprise. Our guests saw 5 leopards in one night last month!

Croc Valley is a wonderful place to stay. The staff are friendly and it's a great place to meet fellow travelers. The views across the river are incredible and it's a great place to unwind. The full board package for safari tents is a great deal- $114 per person incl all food, morning and evening game drives and laundry service. The walking tours ($50) are also highly recommended. A great place for some R&R.

Relax in the tranquil atmosphere of the Luanga river, with excellent camping sites as well as chalets for those that prefer a more luxurious stay. Near the South Luanga National Park with the main entrance right next door, Croc Valley Camp offers the perfect base for an unforgettable experience. Friendly staff are there to look at your every need, with good food and drinks available all day. Not to be missed if you are in the area, and certainly a destination when you are planning a trip. Definitely recommended.

Croc Valley is one of the few places in South Luangwa National Park where you can camp inexpensively and enjoy all the area has to offer. For less than $10 a night, I was able to pitch my tent right on the banks of the Luangwa River and have access to all the facilities - kitchen, pool and hot showers with great water pressure. I loved hanging out by the campfire that was lit every single night. Duncan, the driver for the game drives was fantastic at spotting leopards and Herbert at reception was super friendly and helpful. I'd highly recommend Croc Valley Camp.

It was after a long trip on the bus, me and my friend traveled by bus to try and see a lot on our way, it was a good idea to travel by road from Livingstone to Luangwa last year. We were completely tired but was very relaxing after reaching Croc valley camp in Luangwa. A morning game drive give us a big smile. The guide was excellent, the best Chef and waiter in the restaurant.
Good hospitality, nice game drives and great staffs. Going back is always in our mind. We cant forget this wonderful place overlooking the Luangwa river and across is the famous South Luangwa National Park.

Stayed here for 3 nights in early March 2013. Lovely setting on banks of the river. Good options for budget and higher priced options. Nice personal touch on arrival. Very flexible to the need of the individual. Competitive prices, good food, nice bar and a good place to meet other people if travelling alone (as i was). Biggest compliment should be paid to the camp guide Duncan who took us on some excellent safari trips and was incredibly knowledgeable about the birds and other wildlife of the park.
