I went to croc valley as part of an organised tour from Malawi and was very happy with the campsite. It was in a great location with a great feel to it. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and were always making sure that we were happy with everything. The food was great and plenty of it. The safari driver was great - friendly and very knowledgeable. Overall, I was very happy with my stay.

Bordering the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, sits the most beautiful, boutique Crock Valley Camp, where we experienced an unforgettable personal wildlife vacation !!! From the moment we arrived, Louis and Liesl made our stay exceptionally comfortable by their unique personalized touch!! We stayed in a luxurious tent with airconditioning, magnificent view over the rivier where the wildlife enjoyed their playgroud, right on our 'front stoop'. What more do you want??? The food is outstanding and we also could make our own food. We had three game drives in the Luangwa National Park and experienced how 4 female lions prepared a kill on a herd of buffaloes. All the staff was always friendly and always tried their best to give us the most enjoyalbe stay possible !!! Thank you !!! Hope to return soon!

My wife and I and our two daughters aged 15 and 13 spent three fabulous weeks at Croc Valley from 18 sept until 10 oct 2012.

In 2008 we spent four months camping at Croc Valley and other camps in the valley near mfuwe We returned this year ( sept and oct 2012).Croc Valley is the best out of all the camp in the valley in all respects.

In summary our entire experience at CrocValley was superb.

In terms of location it has the best located camp sites anywhere in Mfuwe….right on the Luangwa River and a few minutes from the main entry gate into South Luangwa National Park.

The adjoining properties feel quite structured and have been built to squash in as much accommodation as possible. This is NOT the case at Croc Valley…it is very very spacious so You feel comfortable and private wherever you camp OR in one of the uber luxury tents en suite.

In terms of Game viewing…Croc Valley employ excellent guides and have really good game viewing vehicles. We did over twenty guided drives in the three weeks we just spent there….the croc valley guides are professional, and deserve their reputation as leaders in their field.

Accomodation and Bar and restaurant are all great BUT the outstanding aspect of Croc valley is the atmosphere. The people that run it and all the Staff are super friendly, welcoming and go out of their way to ensure that all your needs are met.

The Owners and Managers love hosting You and sharing the secrets of the valley.

Croc valley is the best option for visiting Luangwa valley and all the rave reviews on Tripadvisor are truly correct..

Try and spend afternoons in the hammocks gazing over the river or sipping a beer in the pool whilst the ellies cross the river in front of You.

We had an amazing 9 night stay at Croc Valley Camp in October 2012. After the first day, I felt my body adjusting to the rhythm of nature. Waking up with a beautiful African sunrise, going on game drives in the mornings, relaxing in or next to the hippo friendly pool or at the bar during the day, and going on sunset/night drives in the afternoons. We saw the most wild life I've even seen in a national park. Cats, giraffe, elephants, baboons, various deer species and very good bird life. Louis and Liesl were great hosts and Liesl's cooking was fantastic! The staff were super friendly and always willing to help. The new tented camps are amazing with great facilities. I would love to go back, maybe in green season to see what the valley looks like after the rains!

We visited the Croc Valley Camp in August 2012 and what a pleasure it was. We honestly rate the position of this camp, right on the Luangwa River's edge, as one of the top camp sites we stayed at in a 6 month long camping trip. The owners and staff were friendly (as are most Zambians), helpful and accessible. The toilet blocks were not brand new, but were clean and a great place to hide-out when the odd elephant walked calmly through the camp site.

We were fortunate to see Elephant, Buffalo, Crocodile, Hippo, Giraffe and several other buck from our camp site which really proved to be a great balance between the bush and civilization.

All in all we were happy with our stay and would visit again if in Zambia.

We stayed here for a night when the rains made the road back to Lilongwe impassable. The manager was very helpful in finding accommodation for everyone and some of us upgraded from campsite to rooms (I wish I had not bothered..). We stayed in the original house on the site and although it was clean, the showers were cold and the staff kitchens were right next door so we got woken up at 0500 - not really what I expected for 25USD. To be honest those who stayed on the campsite had a better night!

The bar area is very nice and the facilities for cooking and preparing food on the camp site are good.

We did take an evening game drive and this was very disappointing compared to others we had done elsewhere. First of all the vehicle seemed to be on the verge of breaking down. The ride was jerky (as though the clutch was going) and even along the road to the park we went at about 25 MPH in second gear. As a result it took nearly 20 mins just to get to the park gate! The guide didn't seem nearly as knowledgeable as some others we'd been with; in fact some of our group knew more than he did about the animals we were seeing. We also had one incident when he virtually drove a giraffe off the road into the mud. Definitely not worth the 40USD we paid.

Having said all this, the location is excellent and this could be a really good site if a few minor details were sorted out.

Room Tip: Avoid the "shared houses" especially the one by the dining room - it's not worth the m...

Dear Heather,
What a pity Croc Valley did not meet your expectations. We are in the process of upgrading during the emerald season and as you are well aware your'e group arrived unexpected from another camp.
We did our utmost to accommodate you at a 50% discount price given your troubled circumstances. It seems that the rest of your group in the luxury tents and and chalets were happy?
Please do come and visit us again next time in the Valley.
Regards,

After a long journey from Lake Malawi we were looking forward to the highlight of our trip: South Luangwa. We heard so many good things about the park. At the fuel station near the park we came across the owner of one of the Camps in the area. He asked us where we booked. We didn’t book at all as we come and go when we want. But we had Flatdogs in mind. He strongly recommended us to have a look at his place. Croc Valley the place to be…We were given a quick tour of the place and we were a bit disappointed seeing the chalets. They are located far from the river, looked a bit run down with plastic sheet covering the roofs. the inside is even worse, not clean at all and we certainly didn’t want to pay the amount asked for this type of accommodation. So we ended up on the campsite which was a bit noisy with all the overland trucks. I had a big laugh when a very naughty elephant helped itself to what was supposed to be one of the group’s lunch. I suspect the croc valley crew had no idea how to handle the situation as they hap-harzadly moved about trying to scare it off. Fortunately, no one got hurt. The elephant didn’t mind the yelling, hitting of pots and pans and just continued eating whatever food was on the table.
The drive was very interesting in the morning, no big cats but the park is beautiful. However, the tea break wasn’t flattering at all. The utensils were filthy and even after using the bush toilet, our guide didn’t bother to wash his hands before ceremoniously making us that much desired tea.
I would never recommend Croc Valley to anyone looking for descent accommodation, camping or not. It is unclean and very noisy…and the noise doesn’t come from the animals but the Huge television in the bar and the overland trucks, in the morning..
We relocated to wildlife camp and stayed 3 nights. ..Much better

Annie,
It is a pity that you did not inform us about your unfortunate experiences here at Croc Valley as we would have gladly helped where we could.
The chalets are being revamped and thatched at present and will incorporate a small self containing kitchen for the convenience of our guests.
Our staff does daily cleaning of the lodge and all ablutions.
We usually do not have any problems or complaints about our Overland guests, except that they do move early morning for the 6 o'clock game drives as everybody else does.
Our rules in the bar are strict as not to disturb the nature and peace surrounding us.
We will speak to our guide and inform him of your complaint.
We trust that you will come and visit us again as we also have luxury tents on the Luangwa river available for you.
Warm regards,
