My partner and I, both residents of Zambia have found a magic place not far from Lusaka, with only a 4 hour drive (literally) you leave the city hustle behind and reach a beautiful remote area, with only the sounds of the many birds, hippo's and lulls of the small water rapids filling your ears.

Everything was perfect from the great hosts and the superb staff behind them, the design of the chalets, the food, the welcome night fire before you enjoyed your dinners and most of all, there was an activity that fit your needs perfectly, for us, we wanted nothing more than to just drift down the river enjoying a few cold beers whilst watching nature float on by. After our 3 course dinner meal we ended our evenings in the huge outside bath tub (only in chalet 4), nothing better than ending your day in a hot bath with the moon light filtering down from the tree tops above you!

Kaingu, we will see you again soon!

Room Tip: Chalet 4 has huge outside bath tub that over looks the river, at night the moon light filters down t...

Perfection. We stayed at Kaingu for 5 nights. We don't know how you could do it better. The lodge looks out over the Kafue river. The accommodation is very comfortable in attractive traditional style. The food is excellent and the room and restaurant service is superb in an understated way. The staff are warm and welcoming and our guide, Kaly, looked after us like family. We saw dozens of wildlife simply by patient watching on foot, vehicle and river. There were special experiences like dinner at sunset on the Rock. Lynda and Rick are genuine, down to earth people and their attention to the detail and to the whole experience they offer cannot be faulted.

I first visited Kaingu Safari Lodge 7 years ago and I returned again for a week this year and the place has just become better, if that was possible!
Excellent service, wonderful raised tented chalets right on the banks of the river.
Hippos come out of the river at night into the camp to graze - and we stumbled on two on the way to the dining area overlooking the river!
A wonderful place that you feel instantly relaxed in, be prepared to slumber on lovely beds open to natures embrace.
Truly wonderful.
Ask to have breakfast on top of Poacher's Rock - absolutely breathtaking views and a hearty delight.

Dear B,
thanks for the great review it was great to have you back at Kaingu, you are right: poachers rock is a pretty special place for a breakfast! Anyway next time don't leave it so long to come back! I do hope that V's old land cruiser made slow and steady progress back to Lusaka.

Thanks again for your great review and please accept all our regards, the Kaingu team.

Kaingu offers 5 star service, with excellent guiding offered by Kaley who is a wealth of knowledge on all creatures as well as fauna and flora. With the new Spinal road through the National Park, it's an easy drive from Lusaka with the advantage of game viewing on your drive in. Even though we visited during the "Emerald Season" (wet season) we were fortunate enough to see a female Cheetah and her two cubs, and a herd of 200+ Buffalo, plus a massive variety of birds. Our hosts Gil and Julia are extremely experienced and hospitable and pay attention to every detail in making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The lodge setting is perfect, situated on the banks of the Kafue River, with the roar of the rapids close by and the call of the fish eagle gives you a sense of being on the Mighty Zambezi. The food was delicious and served with a happy smile by Ester and Victor. The lodge offers a variety of activities, including early morning sunrise on the Big Rock with 360 degree views overlooking the entire Park. This lodge is highly recommended, a must for visitors wanting to experience Kafue National Park.

Dear L & A (trip advisor insists on not naming guests for some reason),
we loved having you both here and many thanks for taking the time to post a review! We really look forward to having you back here soon. That Cheetah sighting was a good one - first of the season!

All the best from the Kaingu team.

Not many of the lodges in the area have paid attention to the smaller things. Julia has managed to put her stamp on this, from the bedding to the toilet rolls. Service and amazing food are the norm here. What a great place.

We visited the KAFUE Park and the Kaingu Safari Lodge twice in the past 4 years.

We always rent a roof-tent car and camp at Kaingu. The ammenities in the campsite are just incredible!

All the activities we were looking for were offered: walking safari, boat trip, fishing, night safari,...

We saw antelopes, elephants, crocodiles, hippos,...and lions in the campsite! :-)

My Husband, our two younger children aged, 7 and 9, my parents who are in their 60's and I, had an exceptionally relaxing and truely enjoyable Christmas for 5 nights at Kaingu. No effort was spared to make us feel comfortable and entertained. Our journey to Kaingu was very easy going from Lusaka and it is definitely advisable to use the spinal road through the national park, leaving your vehicle in their parking bays and the lodge boats and welcoming guides collect you and your luggage and boat you to the lodge. The Lodge was spectacular, so much more then we expected. Kiangu was kind enough to make special arrangements to put extra beds into our chalet for our younger children. Our chalet's were stunning, thought and attention to detail evident throughout, with special touches like the hand made personal welcome note that was left for us in our rooms. We each had private balcony overlooking the Kafue River watching game and even elephants grazing. Our food throughout our trip was divine, and extra special attention was made over Christmas eve and Christmas day, with dinner set out for us all down by the rapids under the African night sky with lanterns hanging in the trees. We went on at least one activity a day. Even our children were able to go on their own activity while we relaxed as they went to learn bush skills, making bows and arrows etc. The fishing was fantastic, best we have had in years, our children out fished us, not for lack of trying on our part. We also went on game drives and were lucky enough to see lions, elephant, zebra, sable, roan, puku, hartebeast, kudu, impala, warthog, and many many more game animals, we also saw a lot of bird life throughout the park. The lodge guides were really pleasant, funny and helpful, finding great fishing spots, answering all our questions of types of birds, animals and history of the park. We can not thank Kaingu Lodge and all the wonderful staff that work and live there for the best family Christmas ever!! We will be back!!! A very big thank you to Vaughan, Dora and your wonderful Daughters for make our stay so special and spending your Christmas with us and us with you.
