This is a camp in the wild and remote Busanga Plains owned by Wilderness Safaris. The location is amazing - in the heart of a seasonal flood plain. We visited in July when it was a good balance of driving and boating - stunning birdlife and amazing Lion sightings. The camp had it all - great game, super guides and staff and a genuine luxury feel while not being over the top or pretentious. There are three camps in the area operated by Wilderness, we also stayed in Kapinga but Trip Advisor doesn't have it listed yet - why!!!
In short we give it 5 stars and recommend it completely!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Seasonal camp running 01 June - 01 November. Shumba means ‘lion’ – an appropriate name for a camp located in the midst of several lion pride territories. Indeed, the felines are known for their tree-climbing abilities, and prey on the plethora of herbivores that frequent the Busanga Plains on which Shumba is situated. From the raised decks, the view is panoramic and often filled with grazing puku and lechwe; floodplain grasses stretch to the horizon, interrupted only by isolated protrusions of fig and palm trees. Finally, there is no better vantage point from which to absorb the Plains’ vast remoteness than from a hot air balloon. • 6 tents (1 family) • game drives • seasonal boating • hot air ballooning ... more less
