Set on a ridge after a 10Km drive in from the main road the site looked impressive. The igloo style rooms were very well appointed, comfortable with great views.

The dining and bar areas looked very good and the food was excellent. Staff were very helpful. The tame (but fairly vicious) Zebra and the Meerkat rehabilitation area were pleasant bonuses.

A dawn walk along one of their trails led to the plains below the lodge where a large herd of Zebra were feeding.

My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at Rostock Ritz. And what an unforgetable experience it was !! All real estate agents will tell you that the three most important factors regarding any good property (be it residential or commercial) are location, location and location. Well, Rostock Ritz got that absolutely right. My husband and I love the desert and have spent much time in numerous locations and establishments in the desert. Never have we experienced the desert in it's magnificent beauty, fassination and solitude as at Rostock! Having got full marks regarding location (it is also only 240km from Windhoek), the next three most important factors regarding lodging properties surely will be service, accommodation and food (in no order of importance). Well Rostock has that right too ! Add to that the very unusual and practical architectural design, the endless views from the very private patios of all the rooms, the well marked hiking trails (ranging from one to eight hours), the faccinating guided 4x4 drive (you can use your own vehicle or go with the knowledgeable lodge manager in his vehicle), the lovely swimmingpool (again with endless desert views) and you have an unbeatable package. Just be absolutely sure to stay for at least two nights, three or four is adviseable. Walter and Lara and their lovely staff (espicially the excellent chef) are doing a stunning job there. We wil be back again. And again. And again. Fortunately we live in Windhoek, and therefore we can !

Room Tip: All rooms are picture perfect regarding unusualness(igloo-like bungaloes, blending into the desert e...

What a delightful place. the room was excellent with great views over the water hole which attracted lots of animals every morning. The meerkat sanctuary was an added bonus and gave us the opportunity to watch these delightful animals upclose.
The restaurant had a fantastic menu with lots of variety, the food was cooked to perfection and was of the highest quality.
We were able to explore the area on foot on our own, which was good fun and allowed us to see the area at our own pace. The 4X4 drive to the cave paintings was the highlight of our stay. The owner, Kuki, was a "top " bloke, he was good fun and very knowledgeable about the area. We hope to return one day!

We had a wonderful time @ Rostock Ritz. Cozy room's, great atmosphere, delicious food. The Gaub spring/fountain hike was amazing, the spring still has water. We can also recommend the 4x4 drive to the bushman paintings, these bushman paintings are still in pristine conditions, better than at Spitzkoppe or Brandberg and the scenery is just breath taking.

We chose Rostock as they have walking trails and we wanted to walk by ourselves. We had 3 nights and two glorious days of walking - the trail to the river valley was fantastic and we saw lots of zebras and then, baboons. We really liked the igloos and the view to the waterhole made for fascinating viewing of the range of animals coming to drink - possibly even 2 ardwolves......as well as ostrich, zebra and springbok. The food was excellent - probably the most expensive we found in our 3 week trip but it was delicious (could we suggest that complimentary coffee would be nice for residents rather than having to pay for every drink). A wonderful location and a great place to walk.

We stopped here (april 2012) on our way to Swakopmund. The place is remote to say the least.
The gravel road seems to run through the middle of nowhere and after the drive way after passing the R&R entrance goes on for 7-8 Ks before ending up at reception.
We did not stay in the lodges but at the campsite. I can only recommend this to everybody. We were the only ones there at the time. It's 7k back from the reception. Jackall visitors... peace and quiet a beautifull view point with fire place and just a magnificent view.
If you do anything in Namibia it should be taking a shower at sunset in the Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge Camping site showers. Something I'll never forget: "shower with a view" and probably the best view you'll ever have from any shower in the world.
We went for a visit at the pool which is off course near the reception and lodges area. Small but clean and nicely kept and again here a magnificent view over the surrounding area.
Also the breakfast was a nice experience... outside in the morning sun.
Only downside was the man at reception when we arrived... he was either very tired or at the wrong place. Every question seemed to be too much for him. Luckily the peope there in the morning were comletely different and made us rethink our opinion about the service at this special place.

Room Tip: camping here is highly recommendable!!

We arrived in the dark so when we woke to a vista that seems to stretch for a 100 miles. By day a sky that is endless by night a sky full of stars. Rostock is unique and very Namibian - staff are very friendly and helpful. The sunset drive was special with GnT's looking out across the desert. RR is well worth avisit.
