We had a wonderful time @ Rostock Ritz. Cozy room's, great atmosphere, delicious food. The Gaub spring/fountain hike was amazing, the spring still has water. We can also recommend the 4x4 drive to the bushman paintings, these bushman paintings are still in pristine conditions, better than at Spitzkoppe or Brandberg and the scenery is just breath taking.

We chose Rostock as they have walking trails and we wanted to walk by ourselves. We had 3 nights and two glorious days of walking - the trail to the river valley was fantastic and we saw lots of zebras and then, baboons. We really liked the igloos and the view to the waterhole made for fascinating viewing of the range of animals coming to drink - possibly even 2 ardwolves......as well as ostrich, zebra and springbok. The food was excellent - probably the most expensive we found in our 3 week trip but it was delicious (could we suggest that complimentary coffee would be nice for residents rather than having to pay for every drink). A wonderful location and a great place to walk.

We stopped here (april 2012) on our way to Swakopmund. The place is remote to say the least.
The gravel road seems to run through the middle of nowhere and after the drive way after passing the R&R entrance goes on for 7-8 Ks before ending up at reception.
We did not stay in the lodges but at the campsite. I can only recommend this to everybody. We were the only ones there at the time. It's 7k back from the reception. Jackall visitors... peace and quiet a beautifull view point with fire place and just a magnificent view.
If you do anything in Namibia it should be taking a shower at sunset in the Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge Camping site showers. Something I'll never forget: "shower with a view" and probably the best view you'll ever have from any shower in the world.
We went for a visit at the pool which is off course near the reception and lodges area. Small but clean and nicely kept and again here a magnificent view over the surrounding area.
Also the breakfast was a nice experience... outside in the morning sun.
Only downside was the man at reception when we arrived... he was either very tired or at the wrong place. Every question seemed to be too much for him. Luckily the peope there in the morning were comletely different and made us rethink our opinion about the service at this special place.

Room Tip: camping here is highly recommendable!!

We arrived in the dark so when we woke to a vista that seems to stretch for a 100 miles. By day a sky that is endless by night a sky full of stars. Rostock is unique and very Namibian - staff are very friendly and helpful. The sunset drive was special with GnT's looking out across the desert. RR is well worth avisit.

Rostock Ritz is a rather unique, but beautiful & remote Namibian lodge, situated along the border of the Namib-Naukluft Park, between Swakopmund and Sesriem (Sossusvlei).
240km from Windhoek * 240km from Swakopmund * 120km from Sesriem * 180km from Sossuvlei * 55km from Solitaire.
It is located on 12.000 hectares of unlimited vastness. A glance in any direction emphasizes the stillness and serenity with no walls or fences to obstruct the spectacular view across the endless plain with it’s majestic mountains in the distance.

Most guests reach the lodge by self drive. However, there is also has a private airstrip, so good for those flying in as well.
It’s well signposted where you need to turn off the main dirt road (C14) to reach the lodge. They have a huge sign with their initials. Just follow that dirt track for about 7 kilometers and you will find the lodge, nestled along the side of a hill with magnificent views on the desert.

The lodge and the bungalows remind you a bit of igloos in the desert – with rounded roofs. Once inside they are rather cave-like, but a lot bigger than you would imagine.
They have 11 luxury bungalows, all with twin beds, separate toilet & shower plus a ceiling fan. There are two rooms, for the physically handicapped. The rooms have a small veranda that has both a fly-screen door as well as a glass door. Whilst I was there is was really hot, so I slept with the glass door open. Not only was it cooler, but it let in all the wonderful night sounds like those of the jackal calling! The water is safe to drink, being pumped directly from boreholes 30 meters under the desert sand. Bottled water is niot included, but available for purchase. The Lodge has comfortable guest areas, a bar and a restaurant. The swimming pool and lapa is a short distance away from the rooms and guests areas, but is spacious with hammock loungers, as well as chairs and tables. Pool towels are also provided. The view from the pool is outstanding!
The rates include bed and breakfast and for other meals, the lodge has a al la carte restaurant where you can enjoy a light lunch or dinner. The menu offers something for everyone and I had a delicious dinner. The beers were chilled and the wine list offered a good selection.
The lodge is off the grid, so operates using solar energy (geysers) and a generator. Whilst hot water is available all day as well as lights and fans, the plug points only work between 07h00 – 10h00 each morning.

It is an ideal place to relax, do a bit of hiking along the multiple walking trails or even a scenic drive and enjoy the desert life. If you have time, I would suggest either the hike or the drive to the bushman paintings. The lodge currently has a meerkat relocation project, which is re-habituating these little creatures(most of whom were previously pets), and they will be released back into the desert, once they have re-adjusted to life in the wild.
No hunting activities are carried in the area, and I had some wonderful sightings of Zebra, springbok, ostriches and gemsbok(oryx), who came down to drink at the waterhole in front of the lodge.

Whilst all the staff were friendly and efficient, a special mention to Wolfgang “Kücki” Kühhirt, who owns and manages the lodge with his family. He went out of his way with all the guests to ensure that everyone was enjoying their stay – this special kind of service, certainly added to my overall experience.

If you don’t have time to overnight, then it’s a great place to stop for lunch enroute to Sossusvlei, stretch your legs and take in the wonderful views.

like being in a star wars movie, landscape with badlands and moonlike features, all in a quiet atmosphere with good food and nice owners. Loved the meerkats who live there and the herds of zebra's you meet while hiking in the mountains.there are long and short hiking trails that start on the property . It's in between sossusvlei and the mountain passes. just do it.

Room Tip: all rooms have great views

From Swakopmund on our way to Sossusvlei, this was an obliged stop for lunch. Totally lost in the middle of nowhere. Who, in the world, was crazy enough to settle in the middle of desert land? They did and the architecture is a success . I can speak only of the restaurant and it is very good one as far I base myself on what was served to us.. We ate an Oryx steak which was tasty and tender. The salad was good along with the vegetables. A cool beer made it all perfect.
