“Just brilliant in every way”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

This is a wonderful lodge in an amazing location. The buildings are beautifully designed to become part of the landscape, the service and the food are both excellent. A great place to relax after another very long tiring but extremely satisfying day touring this wonderful country. Anyone who criticises what is available at Twyfelfontein Country Lodge should give a moment's thought to how remote it is and the difficulties the environment must throw up for the staff. I thought it was perfect and provides tourists with a brilliant experience. I do not know how they achieve it!

Our 5th stay at this excellent lodge. We love the main area ie the open and well designed bar and restaurant. The Management are friendly and very helpful to the extent that when 1 of our vehicles suffered a breakdown the Manager drove some of our party to the next lodge! The food and service are 1st class and there is a flexibility about meal times. Worth saying for 3 nts because there is so much to do. The entrance is brilliant but I won't say too much as you need to see it yourself! The location is really impressive and worth asking to face outwards ie accross the valley rather than towards the rock face.the staff are well informed about the local area including the Elephants!! Don't rush your stay and trips out as to get the best out of this great location you need to travel slowly and enjoy the views and wonderful assets. We have stayed in May, June, twice in July and now once in Sept, all were brilliant and we saw Elephants on 4 out of 5 visits, we just missed them once in July because we needed to move on to the next lodge that afternoon.

My advice is go here rather than pay twice as much to go to other expensive and in our view, not as good, lodges.

Room Tip: Ask to look over the valley.

This is a lodge in a lovely location with some friendly staff. The rooms are fine albeit not luxurious and a good nights sleep is not difficult. Our little group felt that the experience was spoiled by the size of the operation. On one night there were over 100 people stting down to supper. The buffet ran out of choice items and the supposedly hot food was only warm. What a shame and most of this could be corrected if management got a grip on the team in the kitchens. The walk up the cliff behind offers amazing views but you'll need walking boots or stout shoes since it's a well waymarked but scrambly path.

Room Tip: A room looking across the plain is better.

We did not stay at the lodge and cannot judge the quality of the rooms. We had a sundowner at the bar which has a beautiful view over the damaraland. An amazing place to enjoy life and the sunset. They also have some rock paintings you can enjoy

After a long drive from Etosha out into the middle of no-where the lodge was a welcome sight. We had a warm welcome and settled in the bar for a drink, but there was no escape from the heat even though we were not there in the very hot weather - they could really use some fans. Most of the staff we met were pleasant, but the room was most disappointing. Very much like a motel room; basic, not comfortable and very warm so there was no-where to hang out before dinner or when not out and about. The pool was green and not inviting at all. Food was buffet-style and very average. The drive out to see the desert elephants was truly the highlight of the stay along with a champagne toast at sunset and of course the nearby petroglyphs. Overall it was an expensive stay (you're really stuck out there with no-where else to eat) with not so much to see and do.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing out to the views.

After a very long drive from Swakopmund we arrived in an oasis in middle of no-where, first sight the hotel got a great location and is architectural nice built. BUT: The rooms are very poor and simple. Breakfast and dinner was very basic and staff not very friendly, (we advised about a rat in the restaurant and the staff did not even react). Its worth to make a visit to the Damaraland Living Museum.

This place was fntastic, interesting, beautiful and we were treatedextremely well by a professional and competent staff. We're from Vancouver Canada, where tourism abounds and this lodge was great value, service and proved to be an oasis in the desert. What a nce surprise.

Sometimes I think those who write such negative reviews should just stay home. You have to remember that this lodge is remote and yet immaculately clean, and with professionally prepared buffet meals in a beautiful setting.

Just go and you'll be well rewarded.
