After finding out that the hotel that we had booked was horrible, my two friends and I went to Casa Rex for dinner. We had tried to book with them, but being that it was Christmas time there were completely full. While eating a very good meal, we also asked if they had any cancellations and they did! Even though their cancellation was only for two nights, they still found a way to accommodate us for the third night (putting an extra bed in one of the rooms)

There staff were so nice. They even drove us back to our other hotel to pick up our things and moved us into our rooms. Besides fabulous meals, their rooms were so nice and chic. It was nice to just relax by the pool and they arranged massages and a full day dhow trip for us on Christmas day.

They truly made Christmas 2007 a very wonderful, relaxing, and memorable experience!

This is a lovely inn in a beautiful garden looking out over the Indian Ocean. Rooms were really pretty - not luxurious but very nicely appointed and clean. Beautiful furniture, great service. We really enjoyed the restaurant, and the view is incredible. Life doesn't get much better than sitting in their pool and looking out across the garden to the ocean. This part of Mozambique and this hotel are (thankfully) not a good fit for tourists looking for a large, full-service resort, but visitors looking for charm and relaxation will love it. Area also felt very safe for women travelers.

When I arrived at the airport (long distance roads in Mozambique are distinctly variable in quality), there were no taxis. I wanted a lift into town, to arrange a 2-day trip on a dhow to the islands before thinking about accommodation, but there were no taxis - a driver immediately offered me a ride without asking for any cash.

Having arranged dhow trip, I picked a place in my guidebook, and started walking there. I happened to walk past the Casa Rex, and thought it looked more expensive than I could afford and carried on walking further up the hill to somewhere slightly cheaper. The place up the hill turned out to nothing special. I ended up having supper that night at the Casa Rex, and really wished I was staying there that night. After the dhow trip, I made sure to stay !

There's a great restaurant with a wonderful garden and pool at the back, overlooking the sea, and a small path down to the beach. The rooms are amazingly good value - don't be afraid to ask for the more expensive rooms (still an amazing bargain compared to European prices) - I really felt spoilt when staying there.

The place is run by a couple who really keep up standards - this is not a case of somewhere run by procedures. If you ask for something, the staff are usually happy to help out if they can, and seem to know pretty much all you'll need about the area

For those in the UK, think of a country house hotel next to a beach, but for a very reasonable price, and you'll get the idea

What a lovely place to visit and the restaurant is superb - the crab curry is highly recommended! The best thing about Casa Rex is that you have access to the Bazaruto Archipelago without having to pay the exorbitant prices that the exclusive island hotels charge. The diving is world class and I landed my first Marlin!
