We stayed 10 days and never wanted to leave. Nice big, clean rooms. I really loved lazing about in the hammock. Staff are super nice. The manager Vondi made our stay an absolute delight. Staff are 110% accommodating.
Breakfast is great, if you want something you can just ask. Food at the restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced and there is absolutely no obligation to eat there.
Lots to do around vilanculos. Kite surfing shop right next door, Day trips to the islands on a traditional Dhow is amazing. Short walk to town with a supermarket and bank but one can get a ride if you need. Unspoiled coast with beautiful scenery both directions. Its quite fun watching local fishermen apply their trade.
Car rental place available at airport and would allow for more exploring but we just wanted a lazy holiday so didn't have any car the whole time but managed fine.
All and all great value.
I did not add new photos because the ones already up give a good impresion already.

Room Tip: For longer stays get the self catering units. They are on the first floor so give a better view as w...

Small place, gloriously situated on the beach in the Vilanculos/Bazaruto Archipel.
Very friendly and warm staff, comfortable and very nicely decorated rooms with good beds.
The food and drinks were okay.
All in all a great place to stay for a holiday and do some snorkeling, sailing etc etc

Room Tip: All rooms are okay.

I wanted to share the very irritating experience we have made at Case Cabana (CC) in order to make other travellers aware before they consider staying at this place.

We actually booked 6 nights at this place 3 month in advance as we believed the very positive reviews at Tripadvisor – we realized that this was unfortunately a big mistake.

Some facts
-The management of the place emailed us to transfer 50% of the amount in advance as we wanted to stay in the luxury family self cater unit. (at that time 80$/pps per night)
-On arrival we were surprisingly pushed into the standard double room (65$/pps per night)
-The room itself was disgusting, unclean and filthy. The worst actually was that the entire bedroom and the bathroom were full of fungus/mould which is actually dangerous for your health. You could smell this immediately when entering the accommodation (very high humidity). We actually experienced breathing problems at night and had to open the windows to get some air circulation. We have attached several pictures to provide some evidence so that you can be assured that this is a fact (I am sure the management will try to whitewash our comment on Tripadvisor!)
-We asked the manager Vonde to change the room as we booked apparently the more expensive and luxury family unit. Although the entire accommodation was completely empty Vonde did not offer to change the room for us. (no other guests stayed this place during our stay – afterwards it was obvious why)
-We asked for a hair dryer and some hangers – we received a dirty and shabby piece of hair-dryer that I would not even use for my own dog (plz see the picture – unbelievable) and our other requests were simply ignored.
-Breakfast: There is only one choice every day (egg, bacon, white bread, butter, jam and 1 cup of coffee). Based on the good experience at other place we asked for some other choices (cereals, yoghurt, fruits or pancakes). The manager Vonde stated that this was never offered and was even trying to make us believe that all of this is not available in Vilanculos (original quote: “You can only buy oranges here”) Such a pack of lies!!! (
Evidence:
1. At the nearby supermarket you could buy all sort of fruits and other accommodation places in Vilanculos offer plenty of different fruits selection
2. on the website of the place and on tripadvisor you find a picture showing pancakes and stating “A great breakfast made by Dale :)”
Unfortunately all of this we found out afterwards.
It’s actually more than bad to completely ignore guest requests – what really makes it even worse is that the management tried to take his guests for a fool and stating things that are simply not true. Simply unbelievable!
-In order to save our vacation we decided after 2 nights to leave this place as fast as possible. Due to the 50% down payment (for 6 nights) we tried to minimize our financial loss and consumed food and drinks in their Casbah restaurant accordingly. (e.g. a seafood plater for 3000 MZN which actually costs only 1600 MZN at best restaurant “Casa Rex – another evidence for the rip-off mentality at CC)

Given the sum of severe issues and unprofessional attitude from the CC management at this place we left after two nights in changed to another place in order to leave this miserable experience behind us.

After informing the management about our leave we initially were hoping to at least receive an apology. Far wrong, out of the blue we suddenly were confronted to pay a cancellation fee (that was never mentioned in any email concerning the booking and not even on their website). The manager Vonde then manipulated the price of the accommodation – instead of the agreed 80$pps/night we suddenly were supposed to pay 85$pps/night. Confronting here with the email confirmation she claimed that she has no access to the emails that are sent by the owner (Rob). A How unprofessional is this!

Instead of trying to improve the situation with unhappy guests the management actually made everything far worse. (repeatedly dishonest towards guests, arguing with guests with a bossy attitude to make them look stupid and apparently no authority to handle things as she had clarify everything with the owner) I never experienced such an unprofessional lack of service and customer orientation – “I am right and the guest is always wrong”. I suggest the manager to visit other accommodations in Vilanculos for some benchmarks)

After we left the place (which then was completely empty with no guests) Vonde started to call and harass the owner of our new accommodation for over 3 days (announcing she wanted to come over to talk to us – again a proof of the unprofessional attitude instead of communication directly with her ex-guest she started to involve and annoy other people and even claimed that we would have not paid our bill completely – very very unprofessional.

Initially we were still hoping for a good end of the story – a formal apology and our final bill. Instead of this Vonde made us wait for 3 days until she showed up with some other people and accused us again with an unjustified cancellation fee.

I am travelling now for over 20 years globally and have lived as expat in some emerging countries. I literally never experienced something like this. If we would have seen at least some kind of attitude change to fix the situation we would have not make the effort to write this detailed report. The last thing you want to have during your vacation is such an experience; therefore we want other people to be aware of this.

I am very sorry that this guest did not find our resort to his liking.I have spoken to the manager who has given me her side of the story which I include in the response below. Before I address some of the issues raised I would just like to take exception to the way this man has labeled all our other generally positive guest reveiws as nonsense in the light of his experience. The gentleman is obviously very opiniated to the point of not allowing others to hold or express opinions and I think therein may lie the problem. We are not perfect and do make mistakes. I doubt if any hotel in the world will stand up to this tactic of deploying close up photographs of a percieved problem( which by its very nature blows it out of proportion-much like his reveiw I cant resist adding.)We are situated in a tropical region and yes there are spider webs being spun daily and we do have a bit of a mildew problem in the room he stayed in which we correct on an ongoing basis. The material used for the floor is applied on top of a wet cement screed and does not come out perfectly white-to label it as dirt I think is a step to far. Yes we did make a mistake in allocating him the wrong type of room and when we tried to correct this the day after he arrived he told the manager that it was too late and that he had already found other accommodation. This after telling her after arrival that everything was fine when she inquired. We have 3 options for breakfast. English breakfast-savoury mince omelette or a prego steak&egg served with coffee and juice and will supply cereals and fruit if requested and if available. We don't supply hair driers and the manager made her own available in trying to please. No hotel in the world will allow a guest to eat and drink in lui of a deposit paid if that guest decides to leave an go elsewhere. I hope he enjoyed the seafood platter as he has not paid for it and the manager has had to pay in the 170$ bill he ran up.I can go on and reply to every photo/comment that has been made (why not one of the over priced seafood platter?) but suffice to say that you can't please all of the people all of the time. We have taken note of some of the comments to improve our offering and will continue to work hard at at giving our guests a memorable experience.(refer our other 10 reveiws)

My friend and I stayed at Casa Cabana for a week. The accommodation was lovely and the food was fabulous and tasty! I have a special diet which they happily catered for and impressed me with. All the staff were friendly especially the manager Vonde, who was unbelievably kind and helpful- organising internal and external activities for us. The location of CC is simply beautiful and you get to see locals catching seafood and exchanging wares on the beach. A big thank you to all the people at CC who made our stay so wonderful!

Just a quick review! All of the staff were very hospitable and more than happy to help us find our way around town and discover what Vilanculos had to offer. Right on the beach (literally!), only 10 minute walk from town. A fantastic room with a beautiful porch area for evening reading. Great food at the bar and at very reasonable prices. We'd definitely stay there again! :)

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Cabana.

Positive points:
Excellent location right by the beach.
Lovely, well-maintained swimming pool.
Rooms are comfortable and clean. The two upstairs units each have a lovely sitting room/kitchen with a view of the sea. All units have a comfortable hammock that I wish I was still swinging in. The air conditioner works very well.
The restaurant is close by and serves a lovely breakfast. The view from the restaurant is spectacular.
Good value for money.
The management responded quickly and efficiently to any queries or complaints.

Negative points:
The rooms need a bit of maintenance. The cupboards leak when it rains, the bathroom door stays closed with difficulty. The hot water is intermittent so we seldom had a hot shower (fortunately with the hot weather this was not such an issue).
Cleaning ladies come to do their daily cleaning whether it is a convenient time or not.
The restaurant and this part of the beach is popular venue which means that it can be very busy at times and you may find non-residents sharing the pool which is in close proximity to the accommodation.
The 4 sleeper units are more suited to 2 adults and 2 children as there is only one bathroom and the space is a bit cramped for 4 people.
Mosquitos get in under the mosquito nets, so suggest putting them down early and spraying generous amounts of insect repellant.

Thanks for pointing out some areas where we need to pay attention. The leak only came to my notice at the start of the rainy season and has since been attended to. Unfortunately our cleaning staff need to be told when not to disturb. Non-residents using the guest pool is something we need to address and we will put up a sign advising that the pool is for guest use only. We sometimes have a problem with the mix of hot and cold water from the gas geyser and recently put in new taps with hot and cold feeding independently . I was assured that this had solved the problem but obviously not so thanks for bringing it to my attention. We usually advise prospective guests that the self cater units are more suited to a family with small children as you rightly point out. Mosquitoes are insidious and we do our best to control by supplying sprays in the rooms and by spraying every 3 months as well as ensuring that nets are in good condition. The good news as that I have been here for 13 years and have not yet had malaria.(Touch wood) Best regards Rob Parker

My three weeks in Mozambique closed with a four night stay at Casa Cabana, a lovely way to finish a great journey. The rooms are set in a very pretty garden, just back from the beach, and are spacious and well-thought-through, complete with a day bed and hammock on a private terrace, super-powerful a/c and kettle & fridge in the room. They'll need a lick of paint soon and the cupboards are oddly flimsy given the overall construction but everything was clean and comfortable, and everything worked.

The Casbah restaurant and bar, right on the beach, is a lovely spot to relax and watch the Indian Ocean and the distant Bazaruto Islands, although is a little over-run, particularly at the weekends, by blokes with, um, a close relationship with beer and I expect would be especially so on high days and holidays.
