i noticed from prior reviews that this used to be a backpacker lodge... not anymore. Lovely, tastefully decorated chalets and living area, great service, well groomed and maintained garden and swimming pool. Luanna and Gustavo helped us arrange all of our excursions, suggested restaurants suitable for us (i travelled with my ten year old daughter), and were very accommodating and responsive. The location is also convenient as it is just across a quiet sand road from the beach, and a walk to town. I would stay here again!

Well run and comfortable chalets and cabanas in a beautiful tropical garden with a lovely swimming pool. This used to be a backpackers place but it has recently been upgraded and refurbished. The beach is a short hop across the road. There are no sea views from the cabanas but the garden is a besutiful oasis of tranquility. Extremely friendly and helpful management. We wished we had stayed for more than just one night. Not often you can say that. No restaurant on site but they will whip up meals on notice. We didnt have time to try this. Palmeiras was also excellent value for money.

We had a wonderful time at this cozy place. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the room tidy, and the staff are attentive, professional, and friendly. The pool is great for late afternoons or during low tide. The restaurant's menu is not very extensive (no chocolate desserts?!), but everything on it is delicious. The place was recently remodeled and upgraded; it appears to me that some of the reviews that talk about backpacking and camping refer to Palmeiras 'before' the renovation. I did not notice any camping facilities, rather, there are about 7 rooms (some of them stand-alone bungalows), scattered through the woodsy grounds. We had a great time and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Some of the bungalows face the pool.

We have been renting half of the "Gran Casa" i.e. house with two dorms sleeping 5 each. With the house comes an open air citchen and a huge living. Colleen Horne, the retired mother of Jo, is so helpfull and a truly interesting person. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay at Vilanculos (just in front of the beach with amazing sunrises) and do not need much of comfort, than this is the place to be. We went diving with http://www.odysseadive.com/ (Sabrina, the wife of Denis, is the owner of Zombie Cucomber and a very talented cook. Don't miss having dinner with her at Zombies), did a Dhow trip with http://www.sailaway.co.za/ and went horsback riding with http://www.mozambiquehorsesafari.com/. We can recommend all of them. Please do not miss to visit the local market. You can get there lots of vegetables or bread that looks much better than the ones at the supermarket.

Location of the property is on the beach. The rooms are basic however if you are a budget traveller or backpacking then this is the perfect spot to rest your head. People are great can never do enough for you. There is mozi nets in the rooms but always take your own spray you can never be to carefull of malaria. Basic continental breakfast is served in the morning. Not suitable for business travellers however there is not much on offering on the main island. There is a great little beach bar about 100m right from the main gate.

Palmeiras is a dream place....
....you enter and you are our of the world!!!

Just steps from the beach but a bit far away from the main town (we had no car and hiked when we wanted to go to town).

The best rooms are the small villas (from 1 to 3 if I remember correctly...) n. 1 is the best, just in front of the small pool.

Also very very nice is the the big villas (I think they can host 10 people, if you are a big group ask for them.

The oter four rooms are more normal.

The ladied that clean the rooms can also wash your close (very cheep).

Breackfast is included but there is no possibility for dinner.
