Beautiful white beach. Only one thatch construction on the island for when the cruise ship brings its people.

A 10 minute boat ride from Inhaca is the idylic retreat of Portugese Island - a veritable paradise of clean sandy beaches and crystal-clear sea. The island is uninhabited and so the beaches are deserted except for a few local fisherman. The island is small, the circumference of which can be walked in an hour and surrounded by a coral reef which provides a calm, gently lapping shoreline.

Portuguese island is a very small island (takes 3 hours to walk around it) just 30km away from Maputo, right beside inhaca island. When in low tide one can almost reach the island by foot from Inhaca, given the extremely low slope of the beach.

It's a must do experience if you ever wanted to feel what's like to be on a deserted island. Other than that, it's an untouched island, the water is pristine blue, with almost white sand and no facilities whatsoever. It's a nice getaway (from the world itself) and you can spend an entire day there by negotiating with the locals in Inhaca who arrange the boat to take you and bring you back (yeah they can wait hours for you... nothing else to do really). Just remember to take food and beverage for the day and a plastic bag so that you don't leave any trash in the island and keep it like it is.

Portuguese Island near Inhaca Island is just an island. It is uninhabited and there are no facilities on the island - not even fresh water. The best you can do if you want to say you have been there is to walk to the island from Inhaca main beach on LOW TIDE, stroll around the beach and bushes and walk back to Inhaca. Make sure to catch the low tide otherwise you will wade back in shallow water with the incoming tide.
That is it. Nothing else to do and see. Take some bottled water and food for picnic if you want in a ruck-sack. No toilet facilities.
