I can say many great things about this hotel and a few things they can approve upon. First, the location was fantastic for Nosy Be. It’s not in the hustle of Hell-Ville. The views are some of the best in all of Nosy Be. The distance from Airport is about 45 min. I’m so happy we chose Vanila hotel as opposed to other options. The sunsets are some of the best in the world. Rooms were clean and spacious. Staff was very helpful however service was very slow.
It took a long time to order drinks or food. That being said this is Madagascar and people aren’t in a hurry here. Your bang for your buck will not be wasted. Personally, we really liked the food. Breakfast was ok but the dinners were very good. The meals are ridiculously cheap for American standards. You won’t want to venture outside of the hotel to eat the roads don’t make it worthwhile and I really don’t think your meals will be any Difft. We spent 4 nights here and it was incredibly enjoyable.

Hi Linda,

First at all, we would like to thank very much for choosing the Vanila Hotel & Spa for your stay among others in Nosy Be.

We are extremely touched by your compliments and are glad you had a so perfect experience which you will keep a beautiful souvenir from the hotel and…. the staff – as you said you’re in Madagascar and everything here is “more mora” (slowly-slowly)

And finally thank you for taking time to write a detailed review about your stay

We will be more than happy to receive you again at Vanila Hotel & Spa and we hope to see you again very soon

Best regards
Helene

Overall we enjoyed our time at Vanila. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The staff made an excellent effort to help us with any questions and services required. The grounds are lovely and the pools looked enjoyable.

They have on site tour group Nosy Be Original who helped us book many excursions.

The downsides of this hotel were a bit of the location - we felt almost trapped in the hotel when not on an excursion. The hotel is happy to order you a cab if you want to go somewhere - problem is we didn't know where to go! Additionally, the food at the hotel did not agree with us and was not what we were looking for. There were issues with certain items on the menu not being available and being presented under-cooked (this was addressed by the hotel and we were informed it was the main cooks night off). Service at dinner was exceptionally slow as well - one night my husband ordered a beer and it took over 30 minutes for them the to bring it (all while we watched several employees leaning on the bar and not really appearing to be doing much).

Basically, this is a great hotel to stay at but not to eat at. And it does seem it would be a great place for those looking for a vacation of laying in the sun with beautiful views and enjoying time at an excellent spa.

Dear Guest,
Thank you so much for your compliments and taking time to write a detailed review about your stay.
We were quite dismayed when reading your comments regarding food, feeling trapped and staff service

Isolation: on Nosy-Be Island each hotel is far from everything but also close to everything because the structures are spread all along the East coast, the prettiest. However, the Vanila Hotel & Spa does not have to complain because within 500 meters there are a diving club (80 meters), big game fishing centre, equestrian centre (50 meters), the 18-hole golf course Nosy-Be ( 400 meters), the Sakatia Island directly opposite with its private beach, the Hotel is on the road to Mount Passot (highest point) and the superb beaches of the North, and the departure of all the excursions is made of the hotel with our official partner Nosy Be Original .
It’s the reason why that you can be on your own, with a group, as a couple or a family, the hotel is far from to be isolated

Food: apparently you had a bad experience with the food; we fully understand that the food did not match your tastes; yet there are 2 restaurants including one with its snack menu opened all day long even offering mini burgers with fries and ketchup ...., varied buffets & menus every evening, and another restaurant which is a Gastronomy Restaurant with A La Carte dishes, very elaborated by our Chef
Hard not to find happiness!

Service: we are aware that during the high season some mistakes must have been done but your non-objective point of view or opinion go totally against the majority of the customers, meaning approx 100 people who, according to their appreciation sheets we give at the end of the stay, praise the staff kindness, effort and attention to them.
The service of the hotel is one of the strongest point of the hotel, unanimously recognized but everyone has its appreciations!!

As much as we understand the issue, you have been told right from the beginning at your welcoming by Ibrahim or Tonga that if you had any problems you had to refer straight away to Ibrahim or Tonga; they were at your disposal if needed and they would have met all your requests as they are the management assistants.

Please know & note that we took note of your comments, justified or unjustified, as we always want to go further with quality and even giving training to our employees if required.

Best Regards

Helene Stefenel

We planned a relaxing vacation with my mother who was visiting from overseas. Our flight unfortunately was delayed a day and we missed a whole day of our vacation. We didnt have long to be sad though as the welcome we received at the hotel made up for any previous woes. The hotel management upgraded our room to seaside and gave us all complimentary massages. Our rooms with private balcony overlooking the ocean with paradisaic views of gardens and oceans helped us to unwind immediately. The landscaping here is impeccable. The rooms, clean, comfortable and mattresses so comfy that I had some of the most restful sleep. Restaurant is very good although I think the breakfast buffet is a bit overpriced and it would be nice to order a la carte as I cannot eat much in the mornings. Vegetarian options the best I've seen in Madagascar and I highly recommend both the vegetarian lunch bar and the green banana curry. So so good.

The grounds of this resort hotel are large and well maintained. The hotel overlooks a beach, but not a great beach for swimming.

Our room was very large and nicely decorated. Most rooms are far from the entrance and restaurant, so bring a flashlight.

The offerings for breakfast were minimal. Dinner was only OK due to a very loud band that limited conversation.

I would stay here again, but would not eat at this hotel.
