We went to Kotu beach for the first time this December and absolutely loved it.
Having been to Kenya the bumsters on the beach were not in the least offensive as they were there. We found a polite 'no thank you' worked but did buy fruit from the ladies which we had for lunch most days. We also tried to buy whatever we could in the local craft markets because the money was staying in the local area. The beach was lovely with soft white sand that stretched for miles. We rode the local horses which were both well fed and cared for which was important for us.
We loved watching the fishermen in the mornings and the overall pace of life on the beach. We are totally switched on to Kotu and having done a little more research when we were there would definately stay there again.

Stayed at Badala Park but used the facilities at Palm Beach, Bala and his staff looked after us superbly, helpful when needed but quiet and respectful when it was required. The security guys were good and the 2 waitresses were very entertaining.

We strated our Gambia beatch thing from infront of. Bijilo Beatch hotel. In bijilo you can't swim and do surfbording. Bijilo is quiet and almoust few bumsters, but Kotu beach is a best! You can do anything there, it is clean and smooth sand, lots of restaurants. Very near by Ninki Nanka (old Destinys) restaurans on the right side there is a corner with happy juice selling, massage, hairbraiding etc. We called the place a Happy Corner, veacause all workers the people had a good heart! Go there and have a 300 Dalasis one hour massage witch is by the beach but happy people is doing that!

A bit more calm than the Senegambia area, which anyway is close enough that you can go there for night life when you feel for that.
