“Photographers dream”
Reviewed April 19, 2012

This is real life Gambia at its best! If you want to watch the chaotic activities of the days catch then don't go down into the fish market but go into the large restaurant that sits on the road above it, opposite the craftmarket&road to the crocodile pool.Walk through to back of restaurant & theres a terrace overlooking sea & fish market. From here you can sit comfortably enjoying a drink whilst you enjoy a spectators view of african business at its best. You can take as many photos as you like as no one notices you (better still-no fish smell!)Go between 5-8pm whilst catch is being brought in.You see the delabitated boats bringing in boxes of catch whilst water is being baled out! Women with their babies bound to them buying & selling. The smoke houses.Kids playing.Noise..one of most interesting experiences of our holiday.DONT MISS IT.My husband went with local tour guide down into market & find it amazingly interesting.Because of being a tourist(& we all appear as rich to them)you will get lot of hassle if attempt to go in alone.Use your guide from outside ocean bay hotel. He'l also take you on tour of compound if you want to see how locals really live-be prepared to be shocked.G boy took us to fish market, croc pool&compounds including his mums house(poverty-very sad).Don't stay in your hotel-fish market shouldn't be missed!

“A Very Local Crowd with Very Heavy Hassel Factor”
Reviewed April 4, 2012

We strolled down to the pier and withing 100 yards, were constantly hasseled and could not really enjoy the activity. We were told not to take pictures, children were grabbing at our pockets and there was no letting up on the offers to see this fish or come pose with a picture of this fish. The least enjoyable place in Gambia and as tourists, did not feel welcomed. Very Local, very real and all business.
