We wanted somewhere to stay in order to visit Khama Rhino Sanctuary, and found Masama Lodge in one of the Botswana books. Go there, it's fabulous. Don't be put off by the converted coach serving as an office, it just adds to the charm of the place. We were greeted with a smile and treated like royalty. Captain Kay and his staff couldn't do enough to make us welcome. We went in May 2014 and were served our first breakfast outside close to the rondavel in which we stayed. What a breakfast it was. More than enough fried food plus cereals and warmed sandwiches. All quite delicious. We also had dinner there, again outside as it was a very fine night, lit by lanterns and also a fire, This again was a veritable feast. Very well cooked, some oven cooked and some from the braai.
The rooms are very comfortable, very quiet and very dark, just the way I like it.

At the time of writing prices were not displayed on the page but it is very inexpensive. We thought we got extremely good value, they charged virtually nothing for the excellent meals.

Thank you Captain Kay and very good luck.

Room Tip: The site is well off the road and out of town, so all should fine.

What a unique experience we had at Masama! Although not brilliantly signposted from the road, it is well worth the stop over. Captain Kay, as well as Captain Kay junior were so friendly and eager to please. Loved the whole feel of the place - the round rondavels are comfortable and have a fridge and a kettle. When we had booked, we decided to have the dinner and the breakfast included, and we were glad that we did. When we asked where we should go, we were told to follow the smoke - and that is exactly what you need to do! Without spoiling it for all, let us say it was a bush experience and although you should not expect fine dining, it was most enjoyable! Would definitely go there again.

Room Tip: All were good, we looked as we were the only people there that night!

I came across this charming little spot of wildness after reading a poster about it in Serowe, Botswana, the nearest town. Caution: the camp is not well marked, and the short sandy track from the main road might strain your wheels. But once you are there, you can either set up tent or rent a rondavel; either will please you. The site is built on red sandstone rock cleverly eroded into cliffs and exotic forms, features which the camp puts to good use. The last time I was there -- early 2014 -- there was as yet no organised cooking, so bring your own food. The host, the affable Captain Kealotswe, will help you with a braai if that is your choice. Do go and enjoy the solitary beauty of the place, especially the photos to be taken at dawn and sunset.

We saw a small sign a few miles before Serowe indicating Masama Lodge and as we had a roof top tent and it was late decided to take a look. On first sight we were disappointed with the look of the camp site and were about to leave when a young Matswana lady came running out to greet us. This proved to be a overnight camp stop which is well worth the visit.

Later that evening we met the owner,Captain Kay, a charming man with a wonderful vision for his camp. While the entrance may give the impression of a very basic camp, don't be put off, drive on and you will find a bush camp set in stunning red rock surroundings. The round huts are beautifully designed with little touches of African art and creativity. The huts are extremely
comfortable with en suite facilities, kettle and fridge included.

Bird life is abundant and Captain Kay has provided bird baths so guests can enjoy watching them in both the bush and hut camps. A short walk from the huts to the top of the rocky outcrop is a must. The views are lovely and tree squirrels, rock hyrax and birds all contribute to the ambience of this lovely camp setting.

If you are looking for a genuine African experience this is it. It is the ideal stop over for those heading to or from the Okavango or other reserves. Self catering only at this stage, Serowe is only 8km away if supplies or more are needed.

Room Tip: The Funky bus (see Picture) is also available!!

Though the response has came very late .. we are very happy that indeed the guests had came twice to the place. the recommedation for other changes as well had been observed..

We are still saying we are the good 4x4 stop over to the deltas and good retreat from town life.
