“MMM... before the Movie”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

La Capannina is situated near a movie complex and hotel, adjacent to the L.I. Expressway. This is not necessarily the ideal setting. However, during a weekday luncheon, the facility was about 1/4 filled at best.

Our food arrived promptly, hot, and prepared as requested. It was, as stated, prepared to order; lunch prices were reasonable. Our server was helpful and not overbearing. We would definitely return to sample more of their specialties.

“Sicilian pizza is real old school”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Sicilian pizza is the real thing, at a very reasonable price! Sit down in the restaurant and get free Italian bread, good food all around, however the Sicilian pizza is still thick as it should be, (they do not chance on the ingredients).

“Great Christmas Eve Dinner”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We went there for a Christmas Eve dinner. We were 7 people and we had a lovely meal and were not rushed through it at all. The best rice balls!!!!! Great option for a low key Italian restaurant. The restaurant had all the basics, nothing too out of the ordinary. Good food, average price.

“Service Good, Food Not”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

My boyfriend wanted to take me out to dinner last night even though I barely wanted to get out of the house in the pouring rain. Should have stayed home and cooked. La Capannina is a restaurant/pizzeria. It has a nice cozy feel and is very clean. The service was good. We barely had our coats off and a waitress had already placed a basket of hot bread on the table. The menu was extensive. I ordered the eggplant parm, which came with a side of pasta of your choice. I got the linguine. My boyfriend settled on veal marsala, after wavering between a number of fish dishes. The first point is, being Italian, the red sauce is horrible. It looks like someone just opened a can of sauce and dumped it on top. No flavor at all!! The eggplant was passable, nice and tender and plenty of cheese. The veal marsala was inedible. Tasted like it was sitting in someone's refrigerator for a week. The mushrooms were cut in chunks rather than finely sliced so it gave the dish an awkward appearance too. The waitress graciously exchanged it for shrimp parm. Four glasses of wine and the meals came to $70 with the tip. We used a 10% off coupon. This place is probably good only for its pizza. The cuisine is forgettable.
