“Delightful host and home”

My boyfriend and I have been looking at homes in Columbia County and wanted to take a few days to get a sense of the area and look at properties. We had the good fortune to find The Inn at Green River on a Columbia County tourist website. We stayed in the Van Deusen room which had beautiful views and a warm, cozy and peaceful feel. The breakfast was divine with locally grown fruits enveloped in a scrumptious crepe like pancake accompanied by homemade scones and fruit bread. Sitting in the lovely sun room over tea and fresh fruit juice our host graciously took the time to answer our numerous questions about the area. She had an outstanding command of the subject matter along with an intelligence, candidness, and warmth that made both of us feel right at home.

The Inn at Green River is tranquil, warm, consummately tasteful, comfortable, and private. We have stayed at many B and B's and prefer this lovely inn to others that are often fussy, cramped, and overly-solicitous. The owner, Deborah Bowen, offers just what you need in suggestions for dining and entertainment and cooks a delicious breakfast with baskets of fresh-baked goods. The sunny breakfast rooms overlook a grassy meadow stretching to the Green River, and conversation is always pleasant with the other guests, many of whom are returnees. We have been coming to the Inn at Green River for several years and have stayed in most of the rooms; each has its own charm and amenities, some with fireplaces and jacuzzis, all furnished with comfortable beds, beautiful antiques, and decorated with an artistic eye.

My husband and I first discovered the Inn at Green River a little over three years ago while seaching for our first post- children weekend getaway.

The inn was perfectly located as it was close enough to NYC where we live but far enough that we felt like we were truly "away". We found Deborah to be a warm, inviting hostess with an extensive knowledge of the area (restaurants, things to do, see etc) and we have returned to the inn mulitple times in large part because of her hospitality (and the amazing breakfasts she prepares)! The inn itself is lovely and we particularly enjoy the Martin Van Buren room in the older, back part of the house. It is especially nice in the spring and summer months as it overlooks the beautiful grounds and gardens.

We often reccommend the inn to friends looking to escape the city for a few days and enjoy some peace & quiet but still have access to great restaurants, museums and other cultural venues such as Tanglewood etc.

The Inn at Green River is a special gem. Aside from the lovely house and grounds, the proximity to sophisticated dining, shopping and art galleries is fantastic. If you are looking for a quiet, immaculately clean and thoughtfully decorated room, then The Inn at Green River is for you. The highlight is breakfast, as unlike the usual continental breakfast found at other Inn's we've stayed, Deborah's culinary interests are demonstrated in her morning menu. Great for groups, weddings and regulars who love the area and appreciate a subtle and refined atmosphere. Our most important visits were in July and September of 2007 when Deborah assisted (and witnessed) our Marriage! Now as residents of Columbia County, The Inn has become a mainstay for our guests and families as we know they will be treated in the most gracious fashion.

We just returned from our second stay at the Inn at Green River. We had an excellent time this stay (just as we did the first time). Upon arrival, we were greeted by Deborah the owner. After we checked in to our room, we were welcomed into the sitting area and offered tea and fresh baked cookies, while she prepared a warm fire in the fireplace. Deborah is very knowledgeable about the area and helped us make a decision about where to eat. She also made the dinner arrangements for us and recommended a great place for a pre-dinner drink. The room itself was very cozy and very clean. The jacuzzi tub was wonderful! Breakfast the next morning was delicious, and we truly enjoyed the company of the guests we were sitting with. We greatly appreciated Deborah's personal touches and look forward to returning again.

The Inn at Green River was a fabulous find in Columbia County,NY.
Deborah, the host, is very knowledgeable about the area and its goings on and gives great advice on where to go while staying there. We got to see a local concert that we would have never known of otherwise. The house is beautifully maintained, filled with lovely antiques and the setting is just a delight to experience. It is located in the country so expect peace and quiet yet lots is happening in both the Berkshires and New York all around you. Very interesting!

If you have navigated your way to this page, you are probably looking for a nice place to stay in the Berkshires or Columbia County. My guess is, however, that you are not looking for a thirty-minute lecture on the proper use of the towels, faucets, and shower in a somewhat average bed and breakfast in that region. But if that's your idea of entertainment, then you have struck the motherlode. ("Don't hold onto the hand-shower -- it is NOT a grab-bar!") The woman who runs this place is totally off her nut and someone (friends? family?) needs to tell her to show her guests to their rooms without the weird bathroom monologue.
