Alpine Osteria B&B Inn
Ranked #1 of 2 Highmount B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 18, 2010

We stayed in this B&B one night, we were 4 friends and shared the Chianti Room. It's true that with the pictures you could think that the rooms were actually bigger. But it was totally fine with us, we could fit the 4 of us in this bedroom. It was very clean and we had a good night of sleep. The owner is really helpful in everything, he asked us at what time we wanted the breakfast , gave us advice for restaurants... Might be slightly too commercial. Breakfast was scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and fresh fruits, nothing fancy but exactly what we needed before going hiking.
There is a fireplace and you can play pacman !

the two disavantadge that we found were that the mattresses of our bed were a little uneven / bended and our bedroom was not very well isolated and the neighbors started making noise a little before 8 AM (door opening closing all the time).

Price was 185$ for 4.

This was our third trip with a 3 night stay on all of them
as I sit here and read the reviews posted on previous
stays I find it hard to believe that the negative
feedback is at all in anyway true! The experiece
of our stay was impecable ! The rooms were ultra
clean , the breakfast is without a doubt the best
in the catskills for a bed and breakfast. The inn
keeper Scott is a caring person who focuses on
perfection and socializes with his guest to make
them feel at home.he also has the knack of making
children laugh with his expertice in retro video games that
is impossible to beat! Overall this establishment
is well worth the money , as the old saying goes
"you get what you pay for" if you wanna spend
$80 a night at a bb u will get a powdered donut
in the morning along with an uncomfy bed and
smelly room , or you spend the $175 a night for
a family where they all our well counted for
and tended to with care!!!!

Imagine awakening -- at your leisure -- to the pitter patter of raindrops; a bedroom view of deer grazing on a hill; an itinerary of "nothing planned;" and the inviting smell of "breakfast is ready" ... only to realize that it's not just your imagination! ... Welcome to Alpine Osteria where Scott is downstairs carefully "creating" the breakfast you selected to be served at the time you requested. Don't get too carried away by the perfect presentation of the meal ... once you start eating, you'll be sure to forget how much it appealed to the eye and remain focused on the excitement and satisfaction it brings to your taste and stomach. Take a moment to share your "nothing planned" agenda with Scott and allow him to recommend a list of unplanned activities for your selection. Our personal favorite was driving to and through Hyde Park with a quick stop at the lovely campus of the Culinary Institute of America (Scott's Alma Mater) and the amazing Vanderbilt mansion -- all for the cost of gas, dinner, and souvenirs in the form of historical conversations that will last a lifetime. ... I can't believe you're still reading this in wonder! Call Scott today! ... by the way, to reiterate what everyone else says about Alpine Osteria, our room was very clean and the food was great. Scott even accommodated my special dietary need -- "no eggs." Now that's service ... how many Bed and Breakfasts are out there that provide an "eggless" breakfast!?

We've just returned from a one night stay to attend the music festival at Belleayre. Alpine Osteria is a two-minute drive to the festival site. We stayed in the "Dolcetto" room which was spacious and impeccable. Scott's breakfast was excellent as well, and we could choose any time to eat. We also appreciated the great restaurant recommendation. Thanks Scott. We'll be back.

I just recently stayed at the Alpine Osteria Bed and Breakfast in Highmount, New York and thought i would share my experience with fellow readers! I booked a two-room suite for three nights for myself and my two grown daughters simply to get away for some "girl fun" with the kids since they are home from school for the summer. We chose "Barolo" (for me) and the adjoining suite "Vin Santo" for both of the girls. I was so pleasantly surprised when the rooms not only appeared as they did on the Alpine Osteria website, but were even better in person! You can not appreciate how clean the rooms are until you actually visit and see them in person. Without a doubt, they were the cleanest rooms we have ever stayed in! The rooms were simply decorated, with no dust collectors to get in the way. My room (Barolo) was an oversized room with a king bed and two headed shower in the bathroom (all for me to enjoy!), and in addition, both Vin Santo and Barolo bedrooms had been soundproofed, which enhanced our stay, especially since the house was full during our visit (we could not hear anyone else's television or the joking or laughing that goes on when people go on vacation, really a nice feature and especially so in a b&b).

The Innkeeper (Scott) was very accommodating and was always there when we needed anything, which was nice since we were new to the area and often needed advice on things to do, places to eat, etc. Scott also does the cooking for breakfast, which became one of the highlights for us each morning....always plenty of fresh fruit on the plate, sectioned or already cut up for you, which my youngest daughter really appreciated since she is a vegetarian. The food was different each morning, and always excellent (you have to try the "fried eggs" and bacon...both were the best we have ever had, and we travel and dine out quite a bit). And another nice touch about breakfast was the time we could eat. Sometimes at b&bs, the owner/innkeeper will serve breakfast at a set time each morning, but Scott asked us each night what time we would like to have breakfast, which made us feel quite special.

All in all, the experience at the Alpine Osteria was great for all three of us. Sometimes when you spend your money on a trip (especially with gas prices the way they are now), you feel you do not get your money's worth, but we all felt that our trip was money well spent. We could not have enjoyed ourselves more and look forward to our next visit to the Alpine Osteria.

The website makes this place look a lot nicer than it is in reality. While our room was cute and clean, our overall experience was overpriced and not worth the money. Having to stay 2 nights was the first problem. The second was that the owner, who is very nice and means well, says he is a chef from the Culinary Institute of America (??). As a guest you are forced to eat at a specific time in the morning, and if you come down 5 minutes late, your scrambled eggs or french toast sticks (yes, french toast sticks- arent those frozen?) will be cold. Scott, you are sweet as can be, but I owe tripadvisor an honest review, since this site helps out so many travellers.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Alpine Osteria for 3 nights. It is extremely convenient to Belleayre Mountain which is one of the main reasons why we originally choose to stay there. It was our first time at the mountain and for those with young children, like us, it is highly recommendated. The mountain is not that populated and (except for the food and drinks once you get there) it is very reasonable in comparision to other mountains. Like us, you may be able to get vouchers for skiing if you have children under 12 (as they are free with an adult ticket). Ask the B&B about it!

The conditions of the B&B is comfortable and rooms are extremely clean. You can feel right at home staying there. Scott, the manager, owner, host, cook, waiter, busboy and cleanup crew does an excellent job balancing the tasks to accomodate all the guests. He even throws in special touches during your stay, like putting on the thousands of lights to show the children the trees outside. For the adults, inside his lounge area, he lit well over 30-40 candles to make the room glow and had a fireplace glaring near comfortable couches for resting after a long day of skiing. It was nice to share time/laughs with him as well as he made himself very available to socialize. The gameroom adjacent to this room was perfect for the kids to be on their own...extra pleasant was that there were no costs for the games. The games were various sega video games and a fuesball table from the 70s.

The breakfast was outstanding, hot, tasty, fresh and plenty. There are plans in the future for a restaurant, but currently this is the one drawback, however, we were recommended to a few restaurants that were all two miles or less from the B&B.

It is worth the stay! Go for it!!
