“Very Disappointing Tour!”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

Wow! What a big letdown here! My wife and I looked forward to the West Point tour for over a month. We took the one hour tour. The bus was packed full. I would say 50 people on the tour bus. That is the major problem. One tour guide rushing to give 50 people a tour and it is very disorganized. Our tour guide arrived at the chapel first and before we were all off of the tour bus she began speaking to everyone about life in the barracks and other information that we missed. She did this during the entire tour. We stopped at the field area facing Eisenhower hall and again before we were all off of the bus began speaking to everyone about the history of the area where we were standing. We could not hear her half the time and many of the people on the bus were complaining we could not hear her and she started speaking before we were off of the bus. I am sorry to say this but this tour was terrible! There were many people on the bus complaining about how they were not impressed. In my opinion they need two tour guides for this amount of people. It is not worth taking the one hour tour as all you see is a series of out buildings. What a let down! I would not recommend this tour service until major improvements are made.

“Poorly equipped tour guide”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Took the two hour tour on Sept 24, 2013. Bus windows were spotty from very poor cleaning. Tour guide was asked multiple questions during the tour and could not answer a single one. Really. And they weren't difficult. She seemed only to know her memorized monologues. The funny (sad) part was that she took us to Norman Schwartkoff's grave site. Only when one of the people in our tour pointed out that it was Norman's father that we were looking at did it occur to her we had the wrong grave. Then we all went on a search for the real grave which turned out to be a small, unassuming gravestone. I wonder how many other tours had taken pictures at the wrong site. We spent much too much time at the cemetery. Seemed like 1/3 of the tour was spent there. There was no admission into any building except the chapels and the tour occurred when cadets were all in class. Not the tour guide's fault but it was disappointing not to get to see inside some building (or even get close) or to get a "feel" for life at West Point. The tour was probably good if you were an aged person not wanting to walk around but very disappointing if you were interested in West Point history, getting a feel for life there, etc. I drove four hours one way to visit and would have been better served doing some research on-line and going on the post solo. Maybe next visit. BTW, I had two nominations to West Point 35 years ago but did not get an appointment, so I was very interested in seeing more of the campus/port. Go Army.

“Worthwhile tour of US Military Academy”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

Because of the security at this active military facility, the West Point Tours bus tour is the only way you can see the Academy. There is a 1-hour tour for $13 and a 2-hour tour for $15. The 2-hour tour includes the Chapel and the cemetery, which are among the more impressive parts, so I'd opt for the 2-hour, though this one could probably stand to be a little shorter.

The Tour takes you around the Academy on a bus, but there are extended stops where you get out to see the Chapel, the Old Chapel and cemetery and another at a view of the Hudson River that is near the Civil War memorial and the dormitories. The knowledgeable tour guide provides information about the life of a Cadet and the history of the Academy. West Point is historic and scenic, and the trip here made me impressed with the accomplishment of the graduates of the Academy, the challenges of the rigorous curriculum and training the cadets face and their dedication in the face of these challenges.
