Ok, after reading all these reviews, it is hard to find something original to say. All the 5 star reviews are so on the money! The Inn is such an amazing, wonderful place to stay, so much so that this would be the first time I would prefer to stay here a SECOND time rather than try out a new place. The house has such charm and elegance without being overdone or overly log-cabiny. The colors of the room are just perfect - and may I say a bit daring. I am bad at room decor, and would never have the strength to use the beautiful reds and tans that they used - but they couldn't be more perfect choices. Everything is just so cozy and snuggly and relaxing. Dare I say..... COZNUGGLYAXING! The Inn is perfect for any age range really. Regarding the one couple with the low review, I would agree that they weren't ready for the true B&B experience, and would have been better off in a hotel, free to do as they like. But for those of us who understand and appreciate what the best of the best B&B's offer, Nancy gives only the best. She is just the sweetest and friendliest. She served us a most delicious breakfast, and assisted us not only with good recommendations for dinner, but also some additional places we could check for receptions for our wedding. Ok, I have to stop rambling. I could go on for hours. Just know this, MAKE THE RESERVATION. Don't bother looking anywhere else. You will be VERY pleased. Thanks Nancy!!

We loved staying here. The house was lovely. Our room was large, comfortable, immaculately clean, and quiet. We could have stayed a week and been perfectly content.

Nancy was kind, helpful, knowledgeable, and discrete-- the perfect host. She knew the area inside and out, and gave us lots of tips on how to get the most out of our short stay, including honest reviews of nearby restaurants, plus a few special recommendations. But once she greeted us, made sure that we had coffee and snacks, gave us all the information that we wanted and answered all of our questions, she politely retired and left us alone. Perfect.

We loved her dog, Heathrow, although he is not allowed into the inn except by request, and then only if there are no other guests who might object. That seems like good policy. But he was great, and provided welcome and very well behaved company at breakfast. Excellent breakfasts, by the way. And free wifi.

Not one complaint, or even a quibble. We had a wonderful time.

What a find! The Inn is immaculate, spic & span, great renovation but retains all the charm & coziness. Guestrooms, bathrooms & common areas all great. Bed really comfy, crisp & clean. Low key luxury all in good taste. Every imaginable detail and convenience attended to - complimentary toiletries; water, tea, coffee & snacks always available - help yourself at the wetbar; extra powder room downstairs; terry robes; hairdryer; shower cap; air freshener; needle & thread; fireplace all set up & ready to go - just toss a match in. Nancy the innkeeper is a real pleasure - most accommodating, flexible & low key. Food was great (breakfast whenever you want!). We will definitely stay again next time we go back to the area - no need to look elsewhere.

Just returned from a long weekend trip to the Hudson Valley. We couldn't have found a better place to stay. The Inn was clean and quiet with a large room (#3) and bath (much larger than most B & Bs we have stayed at.) Breakfast was multi courses starting with fresh fruit and then a homemade hot course which was promptly served in the breakfast room by our hostess Nancy at the time we requested. She was very helpful and offered us restaurant recommendations, directions and even some future travel suggestions to Europe destinations from her personal trips! The location is perfect if you are doing a mid Hudson valley tour. We will definately return the next time we are in the area.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at this inn and found the experience perfect. The inn was beautiful, inside and out. Our room #2 and bathroom were both large, clean and beautifully decorated. Our bed was great. We found the inn and neighboring area to be quiet and conducive to a perfect night's sleep. (We never heard dogs barking, traffic or inn actviity while in our room). We utilized the common areas of the inn and felt at ease and comfortable while doing so. Nancy, our hostess, was friendly, interesting and helpful, but never intrusive. Breakfast was special each morning and consisted of multiple courses with a variety of delicious options. The location of the inn is convenient and a short ride to many Hudson Valley attractions including FDR home and library, Venderbilt mansion, West Point and many wineries. We had a great time and would highly recommend the Inn at Twaalfskill.

The pictures in their onine site showed trees and a stream. Figuring it was a nice place in upstate NY with trees and forest. That it was not. There are 4 or 5 houses right on top of this place. Just a bad first impression, but I was expecting what the picture had shown though too.. ( maybe in my own mind I landscaped the rest ). There are dogs barking and the Inn is only about 100yards from the main road, so all night you hear the winding cars, and motorcycles, cops, etc. Then before wake up it was the train blasting its horns.
The room was nice, we had room 1, with the jacussi, well worth it. Just was funny because the two pictures they show you is it. Those two pictures connected is the whole room. Edge of the bed is the entryway into the bathroom. Floors squeeked, everything did. It is NOT a place to take your wife or girlfriend if ANY SQUEEKING will be going on, because, it is ruined, as you feel you are alerting everyone in the house. Its really like staying at your moms old house with your wife, and your parents are home.
The owner is AWSOME ! She is so nice, and yes gave out menus, but only for the $30 to $40 dollar a plate places. We drove around on our own and found ALOT of nice little restaraunts and diners, and pizza places that are not in the list of places to eat. No directions around town, just to the $$$$ restaraunts.
Coming back from being out, is like sneaking into your parents house at late night. While every board squeeks under your feet, feeling like your waking up the owners, and every other guest there. I found myself wispering most of the time inside there as its just an old house beautifully furnished. Exept in the bedroom, where there is one clock and one TV ( that I actually have the picture of being smaller than my wifes medium coffee...) maybe a 10" screen..
This place is for OLDER couples who will not be making any squeeking adventures with each other during the stay. And yes, I went with my wife, we re in our 30s and were emabaressed to the point of giving up trying, as all the rooms are wall to wall, and NOT hotel thick.
Breakfast is Granola-ee. Its all I can call it. It was wonderfully made, with only the freshest of fruits and nuts.. but there will be NO bacon and sausage here, just nut bread, and fruit on plain yogurt. WIth some nut breads you can try and fit in the toaster.
Enough said, good stay, got used to it after the second day there, but for the $200 price tag after all the taxes, no privacy noisewise.
I will add a couple photos soon.

First and foremost thank you for your feedback and review and while we appreciate all feedback we wanted to share our commentary on this review. This guest is correct in that this is a 100 year old historic victorian and with that does come some of the nuances of an old home with some creeks but a true charm. Also important to point out that this home went through extensive renovations when we converted this beautiful home to an inn just three years ago. I would also like to add a few facts with respect to this guests comments.

>In room 1 where this guest stayed the bed frame and bath are separated by 15 feet and actually an entrance foyer separates the bath and bedroom.

>We appreciate the guest wanting larger televisions but very often B&B guests priority are not large televisions but with that said our in-room televisions are actually 14 inch and we do have a 36 inch television in the guest living area for anyone's enjoyment.

>With respect to breakfast we serve multiple courses with breakfast starters such as fruit or yogurt parfait and always a hot entree including but not limited to various egg dishes, waffles, pancakes, souffle etc. In addition all pastries are baked on the premises fresh daily and also continental breakfast with cereals etc are offered daily for those not wanting full breakfast.

> We actually have three homes that border the property one of which is part of the owners property and outside the acre plus property.

> This is the first complaint we have had about noise and actually the main road is more than 100 yards down slope from the home and separated by multiple trees and a brook.

>We are sorry that the guest felt we only recommend "$$$" restaurants and in fact we have a local menu guide in the lobby that offers menus from ALL price points. We will also review the menu guide to assure that more options are added.

Lastly, we did enjoy having these guests and we just believe that in this case this couple may have not been ready for B&B life. We constantly strive for success and exceptional service and promise to continue to deliver what we believe to be a "luxury" B&B experience.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights and it was fantastic!! This was our first time staying at a B&B and we loved it. Everything about it was perfect. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated. We stayed in Room 2, which was the best room in our opinion, it had a gorgeous red bathroom with a huge shower and the view was onto the patio/garden in the backyard. You can hear the fountain running which was nice.

The breakfasts were incredible. Croissant french toast the first morning and eggs benedict the second. Nancy also made incredible scones and banana bread!!! Fresh fruit and yogurt as well as fresh orange juice, coffee and lots of nice teas.

Nancy was the perfect hostess. She made you feel so welcome and comfortable. There was always snacks and drinks available and a TV with lots of DVD's to watch...which we did!!
Nancy set out menus for local restaurants and would make suggestions for places to go. We had a fantastic dinner at the Would Restaurant.

If you are in the Highland area check out this B&B. I have already recommended it to everyone in my family and a friend is looking into staying there in October!! Can't say enough good things about the Inn at Twaalfskill.
