Something about the pictures posted online told me this was our place. What we found at the Coach House was even better than the pictures...Charming decor, a nice mix of antiques and modern, old wood floors and support beams, original art, a very comfortable bed with quality, fresh linens and down pillows, two bedside tables with reading lamps. Perfect. Just outside there’s a beautiful waterfall, winding stream, lush forest and manicured lawn. I sat on our balcony in the morning with my coffee for two hours taking in this beautiful sight. The owner, Craig, is a darling man who took care of our every need, including a loan of a hammer and tools so I could deconstruct some antiques for shipping. Oh, and we were greeted with an unsolicited complimentary bottle of Merlot. What’s not to love? We’ll be back. Thanks for making our Hudson Valley excursion so special.

Thank you for choosing CS Coach House during your Hudson Valley trip. Was fun to meet you both. Love that you enjoyed your room and got to lounge stream side. Happy you were able to try some of our favorite spots in the area. CS Coach House and tools of the trade are ready for any future visits and treasure hunting. We truly appreciate your note.

CS Coach House is beautifully appointed--a great mix of country, chic, and luxurious--and we had a delightful stay. Wonderfully comfortable bed, a sweet little balcony, and the sound of the stream at night. Craig was a warm, lovely host and very knowledgeable about the area and told us about some great local restaurants. Our every need was anticipated, from a notepad and pencil on the nightstand to complimentary bottles of wine. And we had nice surprises along the way, like little chocolates each night. This is a lovely place I've already recommended to family and friends.

Room Tip: We loved our second-floor room with balcony overlooking the stream.

Everything was perfect - accommodations, hosts, location. The room I was given was even better than the one I had originally booked. View of the stream and falls was fantastic. David and Craig were great hosts; location was close to the wedding venue (rehearsal dinner, wedding, and after-wedding brunch, as well as near a friend.

My boyfriend’s friends were getting married literally next door. We booked this b&b because of the lovely setting. We were not disappointed. The hosts were gracious and friendly. The rooms are pristine and lovingly decorated. Every morning a wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit, local bagels and breads, an array of teas and coffee was unobtrusively but elegantly set out. Both mornings I enjoyed a quiet read and my breakfast outside on our private porch next to the bubbling stream. This property is a hidden gem. I highly recommend staying here.

Woodland

My partner and I had the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life so we searched for “best bed and breakfast in the Hudson Valley” and came across Captain Schoonmaker’s (CS) Coach House.

WHAT A GREAT FIND!

A picture is worth a thousand words...but truthfully you’ll have to stay here for yourself to understand its charm .

This beautifully renovated coach house is a wonderful getaway spot. Nestled on the property of a historic stone home erected in 1760 by a Revolutionary War hero Captain Frederick Schoonmaker. The room we reserved was beautifully decorated with inviting color schemes and warm rustic-chic decor.

The coach house has four bedrooms in total which has all your quintessential finds of a boutique hotel room except a television. Each room even has its own private balcony with views of the wooded area behind the property and allows you to admire Coxing Kill Creek. The (sounds) of the creek is definitely what we needed instead of the sound of midtown traffic.

The main stone house is used as a private residence by the hosts, David and Craig. There isn’t a main check in area, as you may find in a hotel, but we couldn’t have asked for more hospitable and welcoming hosts. David initially attended to us when we drove up to the property and escorted us directly to our room. They made sure we got settled with ease and gave us their personal recommendations of every hidden gem of the local towns near by (Rosendale, High Falls and Stone Ridge).

The coach house has a common area where you can find a Keurig machine and a refrigerator with water bottles as well as other treats. We found this the evening of our first night when fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies were left for guests to enjoy. Delicious.

One concern we did have was noise. We didn’t know if the bedroom walls were thin enough to hear other guests but surprisingly they weren’t. We would hear muffled sounds of other guests speaking which didn’t bother us. But we made sure not to be as boisterous during late hours out of respect to the other guests. My partner and I had a solution for next time around, rent out the whole coach house and invite your friends. Problem solved.

There were lawn chairs and a hammock set up near the stream. Our hosts had it arranged around a fire pit which would have been great if the weather permitted it. Unfortunately we were in the midst of a mild snow shower but it did leave the landscape utterly serene.

We will definitely be back!
