The grounds and rooms are lovely and thoughtfully stocked with necessities.

Our room had a beautiful view of a stream and hearing the water rush by was so relaxing.

Don't miss breakfast! Judy makes amazing dishes, served with the freshest eggs, fruits and vegetables in season. Make sure to ask her and Bill for advice about what to do and see -- they know their stuff.

Fortunately we didn't have a rainy day to be stuck in doors while we visited, but the main house is full of antique treasures to discover, board games, tv and local restaurant menus to keep you entertained.

Had seen this b&b many years ago and finally had the possibility to stay for a few days. The grounds and the rooms are absolutely beyond compare. We did not want to leave because of the wonderfully relaxing environment that surrounds the property. Bill and Judy could not be more helpful and accommodating. We highly recommend a stay here if you are in the area between New Paltz and Kingston.

My friend and I are pretty discriminating travelers. We did a lot of research and were looking for the perfect peaceful two-day getaway near NYC. Someplace intimate but not too small, somewhat country, but with enough to do so we're not in the middle of nowhere. We finally settled on Captain Schoonmaker's, a charming B&B two hours north of the city. This was our first experience with a B&B and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Judy, Bill and Daria were so friendly and helpful. Our room in the Carriage House had a beautiful waterfall view and the sound of the stream lulled us to sleep each night. We spent our mornings enjoying the delicious breakfasts, which included eggnog pancakes, bacon, and homemade muffins. The dining room was lovely, with a roaring fireplace and beautiful silverware. We spent lazy afternoons reading, napping, and sitting by the stream. Judy recommended a terrific restaurant for dinner and the food was great. This trip was exactly was we were looking for: someplace clean, quaint and relaxing, nice owners, good food. We would definitely return.

We just returned from our 3rd stay at this beautiful B & B in 2 years. It has come to feel like a home away from home when we visit the New Paltz area. We always book the "Captain's Quarters" a very spacious (particularly for a B&B) and tastefully decorated room which, because it is the only room on the floor, is very private. The house itself is very inviting- whether the aroma of delicious food, the warm and comfortable decor, or the hospitality of Bill and Judy. We are already planning to return for an Autumn visit.

My fiancee and I stayed at the Inn this past summer.
We were attending a wedding in the area.
We had a quiet room with beautiful decor that had a small porch overlooking the river.
It was a peaceful spot, well maintained and the owners are wonderful.
I had a " hair emergency" ( haha ) and realized that I
had forgotten my hair conditioner and had no way to get to a store before we had to leave for the wedding we were attending.
The owners thoughtfully let me use her own personal conditioner and I was forever grateful.
They do offer conditioning shampoo in the room, but my hair needed more than that. I was so impressed with the kindness and generosity. And hope to make it back again soon!

This place is everything you would expect at a B&B and more. The grounds are spacious and well kept. Five bedrooms make for an intimate setting. Warm, historic and charming are just the beginning of what awaits you. The owners make you feel right at home and could not be more accommodating. The rooms are clean, spacious and filled with antiques. We reserved the Captain's Quarters which included a very comfortable bed, private bath, separate seating area with a fireplace, exposed wood beams...the list goes on and on. And the breakfasts! You won't need an alarm clock when you smell the stuffed french toast, bacon, quiche, homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee. All served in front of a roaring fireplace. The location is perfect for exploring Kingston, New Paltz, Hyde Park and the rest of the Hudson area. Also the perfect place to do nothing and relax in one of the common rooms with a good book. The owners are a delight and take great pride in their inn. No wonder so many customers are repeats. We hope to visit again also.

The grounds are amazing and really set the mood for a wonderful getaway.
My stay was over a year ago, I now live near the beach in Florida but I still find myself wanting to go back for a visit! The grounds are beautiful and serene and I couldn't imagine any season being spent here any better than the next.
I chose this place for my first bed and breakfast experience because it wasn't too "lacey" and "hoity toity" looking and was close to mohonk and lake minnewaska. The rooms were comfy and clean and had such sweet touches.
Judy and her husband were more than helpful with directions and neat places to go and even helped with phone calls when our cellphones faltered.
The breakfast was more than worth getting up for rather than sleeping, I can still smell the fire and taste the amazing treats including those cookies they keep stocked!
My personal favorite is the hammock down by the water, I was asleep in five minutes!
I really really recommend this place, especially if mohonk house is too rich for your tastes or you just want a private, romantic and cozy place to spend a weekend.
