“Excellent experience”

The tour was well-narrated and the guide (also the owner) gave a lot of useful and historical information. There's a restaurant overlooking the river where the tour starts and I would highly recommend it also.

“Great Boat Ride”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

This was an educational cruise down the Erie Canal from Herkimer, NY. The captain of the boat gave a pretty good history of the canal and also about the inter coastal waterway down the east coast to Key West, FL. He told about several old historical places we passed by on the canal. The ride was very nice travelling along the canal to the closest lock east of Herkimer, which we passed thru. The Captain explained how the lock worked to .lower the boat and that the electric motors that open and close the gates of the lock are about 100 years old and still operating. After being lowered in the lock he turned the boat around and we went back into that lock and were lifted back up to return to Herkimer. It was interesting trip on the Erie canal and was worth the cost and time to do it. Ride did not take all that long so someone travelling thru the area could easily fit it into their plans for the day.

“outstanding tour”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

Have lived in Western NY most of my life. Eaten at the restaurant here many times, but never took the cruise. Moved to Fla 2 years ago and were back up to visit. The cruise was an impulse, inexpensive and convenient thing to do on a late summer afternoon. It was GREAT. History I did not know having lived in this area 60+ years of my life. An informative ride through a lock on the Erie Canal. The man that conducted the tour was the owner and was passionate about the history and significance of the area. Best bang for the $ in years. If your from NYS you owe it to yourself to take this little tour.

“Relaxing and interesting”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

We really enjoyed our boat ride, the lock and history were interesting, our captain and her mate were great, I was comfortable for the entire trip, although my father-in-law complained that his seat was too hard. The shop was nice and they gave a military discount which we appreciated. I probably wouldn't go on it again, but I am definitely glad I did it once and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice way to pass a couple hours in Herkimer. Oh, and make reservations. We didn't and had to wait for the second sailing.

“Best 90 Minute Historic in Upstate New York!”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Captain Jerry is a man who loves his life's work... Navigating the waters of the Erie Canal or cruising the Atlantic near Ft. Lauderdale.
On this very educational, interesting and authentic 90 minutes you get a history lesson about the beginnings of the Canal, history of the region and full explanation of the internal workings of the lock systems. KID friendly --- they can captain the ship for a few minutes in calm waters. WONDERFUL way to spend a gorgeous day on the water.
Your biggest fan from Tucson Az---- Claudia.
