“A Wonderful Cruse”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

The ride wonderful, and the Captain gave us a vast amount of information on not only the canal but the entire U.S. inland waterway system. The Erie Canal being a part of that system. Although I have been through canal locks in Europe the Captain describe this process in detail. The lock that we went through, number 18, was over 100 years old and almost 100% original. The Captain described each step in the procedure, told us what to look for and explained some of the smaller details and why they were there. The presentation was on CD as well as live and perfectly blended so the talk was seamless.

“The lock was fun but not much else to see”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

I brought my 85 year old Father on this cruise and he enjoyed it. Going thru the lock is the best part. The cruise is 90 minutes long and leaves at 1 pm or 3 pm. They play a taped narration which explains all about the history of the building of the Erie Canal. The captain was very friendly and offered to answer any questions. Other than a historic church, you really only see trees and the canal, and where it meets up with the Mohawk River. We only traveled a few miles down the canal, went thru the lock, turned around and came back. So you go thru the same lock twice. Small children and teenagers would be bored on this boat tour. If you want to view beautiful scenery while on a boat tour, I recommend driving up to the Adirondack Mountains and taking the boat tour on Racquette Lake. If you are a history buff, then this boat tour is for you. The cost was $19 per person, but I found a $2 coupon in a travel booklet that I picked up in a local grocery store.

“Nice Cruise”

Liked the fact that it was Very relaxing, informative and fun! Nice people, comfortable.
Dislike the fact that you have to wait exactlly till 12:30 to get your tickets. if you are there early, and you have paid for them ahead, why make me wait in line?

“Relaxing, Informative and Totally Enjoyable Day on the Canal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

This was such a "find"..Located in Herkimer, NY---We enjoyed such a wonderful adventure on the Erie Canal going through Lock 18----100 year old technology. Captain Jerry was a wealth of information about the history and current facts about the Canal---Anyone would enjoy this 90 minute tour on the Canal.
Well worth the trip

“Fun and informative!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

If you are in the Herkimer area you have to do this cruise! It is such a nice way to learn about the history of canals and the area. Plus you get to go in a lock (that's the best part for sure!) The captain and crew on the cruise were wonderful and funny and so knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this activity (for all ages!)
