“Smelly, down at heel”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

I stayed here because of a conference. The phone booking was a good experience. The service was quite good -- front desk, shuttle, the diner. The hotel has a free shuttle to the airport and nearby hospitals. However, the property itself is down at heel. The room given to me was unbearably smelly and they moved me to another room that was still smelly but less so. Avoid if there are other options.

My wife is in a wheelchair and our accessable room was that, albeit quite small. The food in the bar was good and fairly priced. HOWEVER on our second stay this month, the hotel made a reservation for us for a wheelchair accessable room for us. When we arrived, tired from a 350 mile road trip from Michigan, there was no accessable room available. The staff did not offer to call a different hotel, just saying, "We are sorry". With only hours to find a room, we ended up paying $280 for a accessable room at another hotel in the Rochester area. We will not come back.

This place is recommended by Rochester Hospital for a reduced rate for thier patients..
That would be great except the service is terrible. The staff is very rude and has no compassion for its guest that are staying as patients there. Maybe its because they are getting a reduced rate. The food is less then desireable. There has to be . better accommodations for ill people who already have enough problems. I plan on notifying the hospital and the local newspaper so that maybe another family will not have to endure this aniety. It's bad enough to have a very sick child and be staying away from home. This is not the place to stay.

What was very noticeable is that this is not a chain, what-so-ever. We found that this left some flexibility that we weren't expecting with things like check out times, shuttle, etc. Although service wasn't necessarily 'polished,' and not all employees knew exactly how to answer all the questions, we found everyone to be genuinely nice and helpful.

While it was nice to be able to bring the dog (no size/weight limit) the $50 fee was much higher than other hotels (usually $25, in my experience.)

Another pleasant surprise was room service. Purely out of the sake of time and convenience, we ordered breakfast. Not only was the service prompt and friendly, but the food was quite good and very plentiful for $10 - much better than we were expecting.

The place seemed to be very old, kind of had an "old" room smell to it.
Staff was okay if a bit wooden. This is a "green" hotel, and they charge you $10.00 per room key if you do not return the keys to the front desk. No wireless available in our room.
The room did have a nice LCD flat screen TV, and a free fridge.
The entire facility is smoke free so if you smoke plan on spending time outside.
I would have to guess they are still in the renovation process from the condition of the halls and carpeting.
For the price you can do much better.

I stayed at the RIT for one evening prior to a conference. The conference rate for the room was $85/night, which is unbelievably inexpensive. For that price, I was expecting the worst. I was very pleasantly surprised.

The check-in went smoothly. My room was fairly basic, but had a big flat screen TV. The bathroom was spotless and had good lighting (including a light over the tub, which is always nice). The bed was OK, I certainly wasn't expecting a "heavenly" bed.

The restaurant/food is where the RIT shines. I met friends for drinks in the small bar. The bartender (Jackie?) was incredibly nice and put up with our silliness. We ordered some bar snacks, and everything was hot and tasty. The onion rings were exceptional.

The workout room was much more than I expected. There were 2 treadmills, an eliptical, and a bike. I used the elliptical and the bike, and both were in excellent condition. There was a good universal-type weight machine, along with an assortment of free weights. There were plenty of towels and a water fountain. I've stayed at high end resorts that didn't have this nice of a workout room.

The pool and jacuzzi also looked very nice and clean.

If you are looking for something right off the Thruway exit, this is a good choice for the business traveler.
