Having spent a week in North Carolina we took a route less travelled on our way home. On Route 3 heading north is the Aspinwall Motel just south of Henderson Harbor. We were welcomed by genuinely friendly hosts to one of the cleanest, quietest, spacious rooms ever. Sound like an advertisement? Can't help it! It's a few yards off the main road so one doesn't hear the traffic sounds at night. If you're a history buff you'll be interested in the 200 year old house on the premises. It has quite a story to tell being part of the underground railroad. You might also come across the owner outside working on one of his beloved vintage cars...there's another story. Just know you'll be welcomed and very comfortable at the Aspinwall. Did I mention it's a bargain, too?
