Owner description: Red Newt Cellars is one of the Finger Lakes' preeminent Riesling producers. Rieslings from our most popular "Circle" Riesling to a full lineup of single vineyard selections are produced at Red Newt. Elegant wines of Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris are also a focus. In addition to these aromatic white wines, Red Newt produces a line of exquisite Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir wines from select vineyards in the Finger Lakes. The Tasting Room at Red Newt provides a traditional "stand up" tasting of Red Newt Cellars current wine releases. Each day, featured wines are offered for tasting. Tastings are available on a walk-in basis for groups of up to 12. Reservations are suggested for groups larger than eight.

Stopped in for a wine tasting during our three days in the Finger Lakes Region as Red Newt was recommended.

Dining room looked pleasant, but a bit pricey.

Wines were decent. Nothing exceptional beyond the Riesling.
Tasting room was very roomie.
It was 'nice', but just missed that punch to make it stand-out above all of the others in the region.

Staff: Friendly
Ambiance: Average
Patio: Yes. Not in use though
Space: Plenty
Wines: Average
Grounds: Need some landscaping, esp off the restaurant

Would recommend: Yes
Would return to: Probably not

“Not good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

The wine here is nothing to brag about and the staff is rude! They really can not accomodate large parties around 50 of us. Considering they could of made some real money on a group this large you'd think they would nicer.

“Very nice facility, friendly atmosphere.”

Mostly dry wines but the Blue Newt White wine is nice for those of us who enjoy sweeter wines. They do have food available in the Bistro but we did not partake. It did seem very busy in there and from what I heard from people exiting it sounded good.

“A Finger Lakes star”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

Red Newt is a great place to visit for winetasting or dining, and is also a great neighbor to the community. Wines are very high quality and interesting, especially the single-vineyard Rieslings (nice to be able to taste before committing to purchase - these are pricey for FLX but very good). Red Newt helped spur 'Tierce', a Riesling blend that's a collaboration of 3 wineries and well worth a taste. Tasting room staff are well-trained and great conversationalists. See the separate tripadvisor restaurant listing, the Bistro is very tasty, wallet-friendly (especially for the quality) and accommodating of dietary restrictions. Owner Dave Whiting is also behind various FLX wine & locavore/local ag efforts, including a foundation in honor of his late wife chef Deb Whiting.
