“Worth Every Penny”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

We've been to the August Lodge many times and it never disappoints. Last time we were there was in the summer and we have only fond memories. Fond enough that I think we'll go again this winter. The place is like a dream--there is nothing ordinary about it. The rooms have kitchenettes and lovely touches everywhere. The wood trim is turned just so. You can tell that it every touch was done with care and an artist's soul. Nothing like the chains. Even the chair rails are lovely. And the views are spectacular. As always, the staff went out of its way in every way.
Can't wait to go back.

The pros: conveniently located near the Cooperstown Dreams Park; good setting for housing a baseball team--nice area for barbecue out back, mountain views.
The cons: rooms are very basic, noisy, damp, and "rustic", standard motel room decor, parking lot not paved, service is minimal.
The bottom line: We paid almost $300 a night, because it was during peak baseball season. Was not worth the money.

My husband & I checked into the August Lodge, after dusk. Front desk was friendly & our room was clean & charming. A fire was lit in the lobby fireplace.
Since we arrived at dusk, we didn't realize what a lovely property we would awaken to! There was a light dusting of snow on the grounds of the wooded property. My husband & I bundled up & explored the winter wonderland. Such pretty views can be seen from the lodge!
The front desk help directed us to a beautiful hiking trail. We saw 2 deers in the woods.
Our stay was comfortable & beyond what we had expected.
Next year, we're coming back with our cross country skis!

This place is amazing! The staff was just lovely and very helpful with our dinner accommodations . It is peaceful and the view is spectacular... rooms are cozy and the bed is better than the one at home! The girl at the front desk went above and beyond to help us and we cant wait to stay here again next year!

The building and environs are lovely. The rooms are large and clean, and the lobby is very small, but that is not a problem for me. But I would never go back because two of the three staff members we met during our stay were some of the most unfriendly people I have ever dealt with in the hospitality industry. The woman who checked us in was ok, but over the two days of our stay we dealt with two different women-neither of whom cracked a smile or acknowledged our existences. They seemed to be very unhappy in their jobs.

Room Tip: The first floor rooms on the right side of the building are near the horseshoe and tether ball area...

The place is only three years old. It is on a hill top and the view is fantastic. They have a heated pool and a Jacuzzi. The room,s are very nice and every door to the rooms are painted in a different design. They are only five minutes from Cooperstown and three minutes from the Dream Park. Every room has a balcony and it's very nice to sit on in the evening before dinner to have a cocktail or two.

Our family stayed in August Lodge in July 2013, while our son was playing in a Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament. The property has potential, but is certainly not as advertised or worth the price. During our entire week the facility had no wifi in any of the rooms (nor had it the week before according to the front desk). The front desk issued us an ethernet cord to connect our laptop to their internet. The television cable does NOT receive ANY local or national network (CBS, ABC, NBC...) channels--- So when coming back to the room between games, neither the kids nor adults can log into wifi or catch a daily show for an hour. The daily breakfast consisted of a few store bought muffins, black bananas, yogurt, coffee, and dry cereal containers. I believe housekeeping told us only five rooms were rented during our week---maybe the word had already gotten out. The kitchenette in the room does not have utensils. Most of the kitchenette's pans were dirty with the Teflon chipping. In the end we went to the Dollar store and bought pans to use during our stay. Housekeeping was friendly, but could not remove the stains (looked like drops of blood) on the inside of our shower curtain. Truly we came to the town for the baseball park. The location of August Lodge is convenient to the park and that may be how I try to end this review on a positive note.
