Debbie and Marc have created something close to a symphony out of the abandoned house they discovered in the hills south of Keuka Lake ten years ago. The Octagonal House itself was worth the trip: high ceilings, cozy bedrooms, deep greens and clay reds, and a view of the valley through the windows. Breakfast was exquisite both mornings, prepared by Debbie with her gourmet cooking skills out of organic and locally grown ingredients. The area itself is quaint but fairly accessible, and the owners pointed us to the best wineries and restaurants around.
All of this was memorable in itself, but what endeared Black Sheep to me was the way the owners seemed to genuinely care about our experience in the Finger Lakes. The example that sticks in my mind is when Debbie reminded us to bring our newly-purchased bottle of wine inside so it wouldn't spoil in the heat of the car, even though this had nothing to do with her responsibilities as a proprietor.
Thanks, Marc and Debbie!More
