My family and I took a getaway to Hammondsport, NY. We stumbled upon the Village Tavern Inn, and it was amazing. Not only were the rooms clean, comfortable, and conveniently located, the staff was friendly and helpful as well. My favorite in particular, was the crab and artichoke dip. The atmosphere along with the beer and wine selection made this place a slam dunk! Defiantly will be returning to this place again!!

We stayed in Rooms #2 and 3 this weekend. The rooms were awesome - very clean, both had full kitchens, room #2 had a full living room and updated bath. The only suggestions we would have is to replace the plastic miniblinds with some room-darkening window treatments, and provide earplugs (the band from the bar next door was very loud until almost 2:00 am).
Towels and bedding were very nice, and the beds/pillows very comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 have full living rooms, kitchens, and 2 beds. Rooms 3 and 4 have one queen bed each and a daybed with kitchen.

After multiple trips to Hammondsport recently, we have had high hopes of the Village Inn. When we finally got our chance to eat there, we had a group of six. We waited several minutes to be seated and I was excited by the ambiance. As soon as we were seated, we were handed HUGE binders for menus. Seriously? Binders? When perusing the menu there were extremely limited food choices, but a great beer and wine menu. When you drink beer, don't you eat? There were 2 options on the menu that were a choice for me at 3:50 in the afternoon. A burger and a very extreme chicken sandwich. When one of us asked if there was a different menu, we were told "No. The lunch menu was not available after 3:30. You can go to the restaurant across the street if that is what we want. " This was a Saturday in the middle of Wine Country. Clearly people have been consuming alcohol and need to eat besides beet pasta and bucket of mussels.
After continuing to look at the very limited menu, we were still not able to find something that looked suitable and we saw a waitress carry a steak sandwich by.
When our waitress returned, one of the members of our party asked if there was any chance that we could order from the lunch menu because we just simply wanted a sandwich. The waitress told us no. She continued by asking one of the members of our party, "why are you giving me a hard time and then held a pitcher full of water over his head." I said that she had crossed the line and the gentleman she threatened asked if he could speak to her manager. She told our group that there was no manager on staff at the time. When we began to be a little outraged and called "BS", she said that we could speak to the bartender. Five of us stood up and walked out, the person who she threatened stayed to speak to the bartender who offered to "take care of us." Our entire group eats out often at multiple restaurants and no waitress has ever made us as uncomfortable, nor has any restaurant experience, ever made us feel as uncomfortable as this experience. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO ORDER ANYTHING AT THIS RESTAURANT. Go to Bully Hill, the service and food was excellent!!!

I had the best sleep of our entire trip at the Village Inn. The suite was immaculate and well outfitted and the beds downright luxurious. Yes, the floors slant and are a little wonky, but it's an old building, so that is to be expected--and anticipated! The Irish pub across the street was a bit loud on Saturday night, but again, it wasn't a big problem--and my hearing is just fine! If you check out the location before you book, it isn't hard to see it is across the street from a pub, as well as directly upstairs from one, so again, you might anticipate that there would be some noise in that situation. There is a great deck off the room where I sat and read on a sunny afternoon and enjoyed the music coming from the pub. The Inn is right in the middle of town and walking conditions and distances are great to every restaurant and the lake. Parking was directly in front of the inn, so it was easy access. The staff was outstanding and helpful. I saw an earlier review of the Inn that said the bathroom wasn't clean, but that was not AT ALL my experience. It was spotless (and I have very high standards in terms of "clean").

Room Tip: Room 2 was spacious, spotless, airy and perfect in terms of temperature. It was cool during our visit, so we didn't use either AC or heat--just opened windows and fresh air--and we felt quite comfortable with leaving the window open during the night

For the price, the room should have been a lot nicer and definitely a lot cleaner. It felt like we were crashing at someone's college apartment and not so much like staying in a hotel or inn. The room didn't really feel secure either as the door was pretty flimsy. The Irish pub across the street plays really loud music until quite late. The management was not especially helpful or friendly. Everyone else that we met in Hammondsport was lovely though.
