Not too far from parking. need safe hiking boots as terrain is wet , cool and rocky but worth the small hike to get there. Not for anyone with walking issues as it can be treacherous. Hiking staff is very helpful. Falls are spectacular. Went in June when water was plentiful.

Kaatterskill Falls are beautiful. We went after a rain storm so the falls were very strong.
The scenery is awesome.
The hike to the top of the falls are short but are treacherous in some places.
There are watering holes and you can stand under the falls, so bring bathing gear.
The climb up is difficult with slippery with rocks, mud, tree roots, etc..so bring climbing shoes.
You can park in the small main parking lot or join in with others as they park alongside the road.
Its near Hunter Mtn, Tannersville, etc.. so there are places to stay over in the area.

To see Kaaterskill Falls, you will park in a small lot alongside a busy road. Unfortunately, you'll have to walk about 0.2 miles on this road to reach the trail head, but it's quick. There is a multi-tiered waterfall at the trailhead below the road, which is pretty, but hike 0.5 miles up and enjoy the spectacular Kaaterskill Falls: two tiered falls that, together, are taller than Niagara Falls. At the base of the falls there are a couple of shallow (cold!) swimming basins that our children loved. My husband, brother and sister-in-law brought our kids (two 2 yr-olds and a 4 month-old). When we got to the trail, we were concerned that the rocky incline would be too much for our troops, but we were reassured by hikers coming down that it would be perfectly feasible...and it was. It was also well worth it. There are more treacherous trails that lead to the top of the falls - replete with guiding ropes - which we obviously didn't attempt with the kiddos. I can only imagine that the vista is incredible if you're up for it.

Just a .50 mile hike takes you to this gorgeous site. We had a wonderful time. Be aware that the parking lot is small and gets full quickly.
It's a great getaway from the city.

A great half hour hike from the road to the bottom. We then drove to the top which was close to the car parking. The weather was misty and cloudy and this just added to the atmosphere.
