“This hotel was what made our family trip a success.”

We had the greatest time here because the facility itself is wonderful but also because the staff was so helpful. We had four adults and two under-three boys, and everyone loved it. We stayed in two rooms down the hall from each other on the second floor. They were large, comfortable and quiet, and the grandparents were able to step in for the parents so everyone could have a good time. The pool was a blast--two pools actually, one big and one little. We were also able to shuttle drinks of various types from the bar (an experience in itself and a local hangout) out to the pool with ease. Kids of all ages were splashing around and enjoying themselves. Also, when we decided to cook out, the people who dock their boats there were very generous and let us use their grills because we were guests. A great, great three-day weekend.

Room Tip: Go upstairs in the main hotel or into the closest out building

I chose this inn because I was in the area for a wedding and needed a place that allows 1 night stays versus the usual 2 night minimum (at $350 a night that most B&Bs require in the area. ) I live in Manhattan, drove out to long island to the Townsend Manor Inn and this place completely fit the bill.

The inn actually exceeded my expectations (there were no previous reviews on Trip Advisor to go off of). The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, had a television, the bathroom was very clean (no rust or remnants of previous guests), the bathroom had nice tiling, clean towels, good water pressure, provided toiletries, etc. Our room also had a nice view of the harbor and the inn has a pool although we didn't use it. With town just a short walk away, we didn't eat at the inn as there are tons of options just down the road.

All in all, if your'e looking for an affordable place and plan on spending the majority of your time at vineyards, restaurants, etc, this inn will meet your needs.

On the plus side, our room was spacious, the pool was nice and the location is a brief walk to town. But the carpets are dirty, the paint outside the buildings is dramatically peeling, and we had water marks on our ceiling. At breakfast, despite there being few diners present, service was slow and they were out of a number of items from the menu - namely fruit. Later, we had an unpleasant run in with a manager after we brought a plastic bottle of Snapple into the pool area. None of this would be all that bad if they weren't asking top dollar for the rooms, but when you're paying $250/night in our case, it's disappointing. No surprise that that when we checked out, no one bothered to ask the usual, "How was everything?"

This place has potential, but it just feels like the owners don't care or gave up trying. The location is fine, a short walk to town, right on the marina. The rooms in the main house are newly renovated, but the other buildings look run down. We had a very nice room, but the carpets are filthy, even in the hallway. The service is fine when you get it, but for the prices they charge there could be some complimentary coffee or something.

Overall, not a bad experience, but not a great one. With a little attention to detail and customer service they could actually earn the high rates they charge.

We stayed at the Townsend manor to attend a wedding. We stayed in one of the larger suites. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. To be fair, the exteriors of all the buildings were badly in need of work: there was a lot of rust and peeling paint. That said, we slept well and the location and price were hard to beat. The bar and restaurant were nice, though the resaturant was very slow and understaffed.

This was awesome. Quite, clean. The bathroom was renovated. everything worked and the staff was friendly.
One thing to consider, its quite far from the Jitney and the LIRR, so be prepared to walk with your luggage about 1 mile or so if you are not driving.
Great location for Wine Tasting Via Bike. Rent bikes @ Shelter Island. No real bike shops and rentals in Greenport.
I would send all my friends here for a quick getaway from the city into wine country!

I have stayed here many times over the last 30 years. This is a country inn - not a Hyatt or Holiday Inn (which I have also stayed in many times) - some of the reviewers perhaps had a mis-impression of what this is - it is part marina and part hotel - and yes, it is old (although there have been significant changes over the years - it may have been the last place to change from rotary phones) - but you come here for its charm and the beauty of the North Fork of Long Island - and the pool in the summer is great for kids - and the sunken bar is attractive. While not inexpensive, the rates seem to be in line with what is to be expected during summer on the East End of Long Island - and considerably less off-season.
