Ruby's Cove goes above and beyond expectations to make sure that you have a wonderful time on the North Fork! It's a beautiful and comfortable house, but not at all stuffy. The little extras -- super plush towels, wine and cheese in the evenings for sitting on the porch after a long day in the sun, free bikes, and more -- are so worth the trip. We liked it so much when we visited last fall that we came back in the spring for the LI Food & Wine Festival June 24-26.

The owner, Donna, is so welcoming and great with providing recommendations and directions to the best wineries, restaurants and beaches. A lot of the action happens in downtown Greenport, about 2 blocks from Ruby's Cove. And there are tons of great restaurants so close -- Vine, Claudio's, La Cuvee at the Greenporter, Noah's -- that Donna will call to make a reservation for you and tell you the best thing on the menu to ensure that you have the maximum experience. Ruby's Cove is close driving distance to tons of vineyards, but make sure you get out to visit them well before 5pm! Most of the wineries close early, but a few have live music and evening tastings from 6-9pm. Donna can help you find a tour or a driver so you can just enjoy the wine without worrying about driving. And the Greenport Harbor brewery is literally next door, but it's only open in the afternoon, so you have to mosy over for a tasting of their delicious beers or pick up a growler before 6pm.

My boyfriend and I needed an impromptu getaway from the city, and we didn't want to drive. I looked around for a destination that could be easily reached by train or bus, and found Greenport. Read the many tripadvisor reviews of the B&B's in town, and picked Ruby's Cove on a bit of a whim. And I'm so glad I did.

Donna is a kind, generous, truly unique spirit. She took us in and cared for us as if we had known each other for years - she was full of wonderful suggestions and her thoughtful attention to detail made every moment of our trip more special than we ever could have planned on our own. Don't be shy about asking for suggestions - she has many and never once steered us wrong. There's so much in and around Greenport to discover - bike rides, beautiful rocky beaches and hiking trails, the ferry to Shelter Island...and the local history is colorful, entertaining, and intriguing (not to mention the locals themselves!) The brewery next door is awesome (don't skip the mini art gallery upstairs) and we had fantastic dining experiences at both Noah's and the Frisky Oyster in town. And Donna provides wonderful little noshes (actually, more than we could finish!) in the afternoon and evening. You'll want for nothing.

Ruby's Cove itself defies explanation - it's beautiful, but it's real value is in its relaxed vibe - and suffice it to say that you either get it or you don't. The pictures are good but they don't really do justice to the feel of the place. I slept better than I have in months, quite literally. And I'm a career insomniac. I'm also not really a B&B person - I generally enjoy a more anonymous situation - but I loved the fact that I was a little challenged to make friends and come out of my shell a bit last weekend. I think it was just what I needed.

One last thing - whatever you do, don't miss the French toast.

We had a great stay at Ruby's. The location was fantastic. It's steps from the water and the Greenport Harbor Brewery is only a few steps away.

The inside is beautifully decorated and very inviting. We felt very comfortable relaxing in the common areas -In the mornings we drank great coffee and read the newspaper in the living room area. We stayed in the Madeline room, which was clean, comfortable and so peaceful.

Donna, the Innkeeper, is welcoming and friendly. She was always interested in offering restaurant recommendations and places to check out. As a result, we discovered local gems in Greenport that we would have missed.

Also, every breakfast was outstanding. Easily the best meals we had in Greenport were the breakfasts at Ruby's Cove. When we come back to Greenport, we will absolutely stay here.

We went to Greenport in search of fun and easy vacation, and with Ruby's Cove, we found nothing less than a 5 STAR experience! Donna's attention to detail, from some of the best towels and sheets to boot, made for the perfect seaside setting. It's right next to the wonderful Greenport Brewery, a few steps from the main drag, and minutes from the ferry to Shelter Island. With so much to do, it's a wonder that we came back so relaxed, must have been those soft as air beds!

From the moment you pull up to this gorgeous old Victorian home, you KNOW it is going to be a wonderful experience! Donna, (keeper of the Cove) is a delight and more than happy to help make your stay the best it can be. The rooms are charming and tastefully decorated-each with their own bath, and the linens are delicious! Add to this "the keeper of the Cove's" special touches- like fresh hand cut flowers which were delivered to our room alongside extra plush towels just "in case" we should need them, and you have an idea of just how enjoyable our stay was. Just steps from Greenport's town center, Ruby's Cove is truly a must!

We will definitely be back!

I had the pleasure of organizing my best friends bachelorette party and was incredibly lucky to have found Ruby's Cove. We had an amazing weekend. Donna (the owner) treated us like family (the good kind) from start to finish. The house is immaculate, creative and inspiring. The breakfasts were incredible. The beds were heavenly. The layout and energy of the house inspired lots of cozy lounging, chatting and of course eating. There were a few hours of fun partying in there too. Donna and Ruby's Cove made me seem like a rock star as the maid of honor, she had a hand in many good recommendations and extra activities for the area that really spiced up the weekend! It was awesome. GO there and party like a rock star, relax by the fire, eat an endless breakfast, bike to beautiful beaches or stroll through town and the many sweet shops it has to offer!

My best friend had her wedding at Driftwood Farms in Orient Point, and she booked all of the rooms at Ruby's Cove for the girls in her bridal party... It was perfect! It's an adorable bed and breakfast (let's put a delicious emphasis on the breakfast part) that we completely took over and made our own.
What was really amazing was that my friend hosted her rehearsal dinner in the yard. She teamed up with the brewery next door and brought in an incredible, bright red pizza truck (very cute servers!) that parked on the lawn and it was the perfect, super-casual rehearsal dinner.
And I'd be remiss not to mention Donna, the proprietor, personality and powerhouse of the entire place. She's adorable, laid back and yet somehow manages to get it all done.
To be sure, this spot is for the bride who appreciates character and color-- the rooms are all decorated in different palates with different themes-- as opposed to super modern and white. It provides everything you could need or want in it's own fun, interesting and dynamic way. And of course the location can't be beat.
Thumbs up!!
