“Great boutique hotel with access to Long Island Train”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

I've stayed at the Inn at Great Neck 5 or more times. It's the kind of hotel that is quiet, classical, and comfortable. Especially love the bar where if you're a solo traveler, it's small enough not to be intimidating. When making a reservation, do ask for the rooms facing the street. Yes, the trains sometimes make some noise, but I've stayed in Manhattan and the noise level can louder. One of the outstanding features is the beautiful marble bathrooms stocked with amenities. Down pillows and duvet can't be beat. The Inn is located within walking distance of the Long Island train that can take you to Manhattan. Also, it's near a nice shopping district and there are many restaurants along the street. The Giraffe Restaurant in the Inn is great as well. We usually indulge in their breakfast of New York New York.... bagel, cream cheese, lox, etc. I've attended several business meetings here and they were more than accommodating. All in all... nice, friendly, warm Inn.

Room Tip: As for rooms in the front of the hotel.

I've stayed at the Inn at Great Neck twice now for business travel and it's always been great. Very convenient to the Great Neck train station, which is where I can catch a shuttle to the office, and the staff at the hotel is always so friendly and welcoming.

My only suggestion would be to allow people to use the complementary breakfast passes that one is given at check-in on room service instead of having to go down to the restaurant to get the breakfast for free. It's easier for me to eat breakfast in my room while working before heading into the office and since it's the same meal as offered in the restaurant, it would make a bit more sense/be more convenient to have the breakfast passes also usable for room service.

But, overall, top notch!

Stayed here this past weekend for a wedding. They had a block of rooms held for everyone. When you got there the staff was exceptionally friendly and handled your every request. We loved the hotel - the room (we had a King room) was sooo clean, very roomy and perfect. I would definitely stay here again for a weekend getaway with my husband. We took a walk when we got there to check out what's in the area. There's a lot of shops and restaurants. We checked out Gino's Pizza...very good! Just a great time.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front you can hear the valet at all hours and the people coming and going but it's...

I found this hotel a few years ago using TripAdvisor, where many others have written to praise it. The staff is helpful, the accommodations very comfortable, the price much less than what I would pay for half as much comfort and luxury in NYC. The Great Neck train station is a couple of blocks walk away, so going into the city is very easy, as is catching a train out to Port Washington. I rent a room with microwave and fridge, then rent a car from Hertz in Great Neck. There is a shopping center in walking distance, plus many restaurants. The hotel restaurant and bar serve delicious lunches and dinners in between comfort-food and gourmet elegance; the hotel bar is friendly. The wifi internet is free and trouble-free. An excellent home base for one person or a family making a short stay or an extended one.

Room Tip: Having a fridge and microwave is very comfortable for a long stay.

Thank you for your feedback. It is much appreciated. We are pleased to hear that you found the Inn at Great Neck to be in a convenient location for those wanting and/or needing to visit New York City. A trip to the Big Apple only takes approx. 20 minutes from the Great Neck train station utilizing the Long Island Rail Road. The station is just a few minutes walking distance from the Hotel. One can enjoy the quiet tree lined streets of Great Neck on Long Island’s North Shore and still enjoy all the City has to offer without paying the big city prices for hotel accommodations.

We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the personalized service our staff offers all of our guests along with many of the other amenities and services the Hotel has to offer.

The Inn at Great Neck is boutique in style with 85 deluxe rooms ranging in size and set-up but they all have something to offer that is truly out of the ordinary. We are very pleased that you recognized that in our full service Hotel, and we hope that you continue to share your experience with others. We hope to see you again soon!

Thank you again, and as always all the best to you!

I had an unexpected, extended stay at the Inn at Great Neck from January 13 to 30th, 2012, when my husband was at the nearby North Shore University Hospital for surgery. We traveled from Florida for what was to have been a minor, scheduled operation, but nothing else about the experience went as planned. Complications ensued, and a 10-day visit to a friend's home in Lake Success morphed into 17 nights at the Inn. Everyone from the valets to the helpful and welcoming staff at the front desk, to the housekeepers, to the engineers, to Fran in the bar, took me into their care and made me feel welcome and safe. Trudging daily back and forth to the hospital in a strange city with no friends or relatives was incredibly difficult. But each and every person I encountered at the Inn worked to make my life easier and more pleasant. Heat in the room not working? Fixed within minutes. Dry winter air giving my Florida sinuses a nose bleed? A brand-new vaporizer was purchased and set up in my room. Husband needing to recuperate and see visiting nurses in the room so the maids cannot get in and clean until late in the day? No problem. Mini fridge for the fruit basket sent by Florida friends? Delivered immediately. There was nothing I asked for or needed that wasn't accommodated with a smile and a "How is your husband doing today, Mrs. Lando?" We had a handicapped equipped room with a spacious bathroom and more than enough comfort to make up for the stress of being so far from home with an ailing spouse. The room was kept impeccably clean...the drinks Fran poured in the Giraffe bar were delicious and generous...the food fine and the location, walking distance to all the amenities, stores and restaurants in Great Neck, a blessing for someone without a car. In short, I felt like Eloise at the Plaza: pampered, safe and part of the family. I can't thank you enough, Inn at Great Neck for helping me get through a very long and onerous trip. I do have one TINY thing to offer: for some reason, the housekeepers are trained to make up the beds so tightly that to slither your body into the sheets requires unmaking the entire bed! No need to make the sheets like a tourniquet, ladies~that is my only "complaint". The TV was a little fritzy...some channels had lots of "noise" and interference that interrupted the audio and video feed and the local PBS station had no audio. But these are minor concerns given how much good outweighed them in the balance during my stay.

Room Tip: Our handicapped room at the end of the corridor was roomy and faced the side of the building, which...

I stayed here a week with my wife to visit da mom and step-family who live down the road in Douglaston. This last stay was like most others I've enjoyed throughout the many years before and after being married. I booked a room for $199 a night(?) through Expedia and that's a decent price for the property. Winter/early spring rates may be even cheaper. I guess they are an all Jr hotel suites. The rooms have plenty of sq footage and nice sized bathrooms. Well lit room and W/C. Ample sized closet. We were on the top floor where the business center was close by. That was good cuz our laptop got busted in transit. Front desk service was excellent and all calls from the room for service were great. For some reason our mattress was awful the 1st night there and we had 'em swap it out for a more comfortable one. 1st time that has happened but it was taken care of by the time we returned to the room. Location is great. Walking distance to Great Neck Train Station and adorable downtown Great Neck. The restaurant is just ok but not very expensive and will do in a pinch. Room service was good for basic fare.

*A good value alternative to staying in Manhattan.* It's in a great neighborhood, 15-20 min away from JFK and a 20 min train ride to Penn Station. All and all they will continue to get my business when we go to visit mom... just keep it up!

Room Tip: Try to get one of the top floor rooms.
