“Our wonderful B & B experience”
Reviewed October 11, 2011

This was our first stay at this bed & breakfast. It was formerly a railroad train station in Granville, NY (the colored slate capital of the world!). Having stayed in the past at several other B&B's in this state and in different states, we can say unequivocally that this has been our best experience by far! We stayed in the Freight Office room which is very large with its own large bathroom (claw-foot tub, walk-in shower); a sitting area with fireplace; & a stackable washer/dryer in the bathroom. The B&B is beautifully decorated with antiques. Very clean. The bed was very comfortable. Delicious breakfasts. Hosts, Mickey & Wayne Shaw are wonderful! They welcomed us warmly and made sure we felt that this was our "home away from home!" It is within walking distance or a very short drive to the Slate Valley Museum and several restaurants on Main St. This area is near the Vermont border. From Western NY where we live, it is about half way or so to the Western Mountain region of Maine where we like to vacation. So this is the perfect place to stay! We will definitely stay here again and we would highly recommend this B&B.

It was a wonderful stay. It was our first B & B. And it more than exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the Freight Office. This room was large, and included a seating area and a fire place. The fireplace wasn't needed in August, but we can't wait to come back in the winter to check it out! The bathroom was spacious as well. It had a separate shower and tub. Our favorites had to be the bath mats! They were so soft and fuzzy! In the morning wonderful breakfasts were prepared. We had french toast one day and blueberry pancakes the next. They had real maple syrup, and the store kind, which was perfect for us! There was a large variety of breakfast foods, sure to satisfy anyone's breakfast desire. The gardens in the back are lovey. There is plenty of parking, which is convenient! The service was perfect. If you needed anything all you had to do was call, and they helped as much as they could. I can't wait for us to stay here again!

My family just had a wonderful stay at the Station House! The rooms were spotless and cozy and the owners made us feel as if we were a part of the family! My children can't wait to go back! We'll be making our return reservations soon!

Our first experience at the Station House was so delightful we thought we would try it again. And we were not disappointed. Hosts Mickey and Wayne Shaw were as friendly and welcoming as before. Our room, which we had on both visits, is the largest in the old railroad station house now converted into a B & B. Large because it was the baggage room. We stayed three nights, which meant we had three wonderful different breakfasts prepared by Mickey. But in addition, every evening she had fresh treats out for us, including a wonderful coffee cake, which we adored. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks, juices, cold water bottles, and wine, and despite what we took, every morning it was completely restocked. Best part? The price hadn't gone up from the year before. We already booked for next year's stop-over.

I can't say enough complimentary things about this extra-special B&B & it's warm & gracious owners, Micky & Wayne. The refurbished train station has a beautiful parlor & sitting area. The bedrooms are very comfortable & also beautifully furnished. The gardens are spectacular & create a peaceful setting as well as a truly sensory experience. The breakfasts were scrumptious. We were treated like family & that made our stay that much more enjoyable & special. My husband & I are SOOOO looking forward to staying @ the Station House in the future.
The location is convenient for day trips to many interesting towns & sites.

This is a great place to stay in you're travelling in rural upstate NY or southern VT. It is right next door to the Slate Valley Museum, which is a gem and the very funky, interesting natural history museum at the Pember Library. Good breakfast, quiet, clean, just right rooms and lots of curiosities to see.
