Get up early and walk with Sam. One history walk and one for a view across the way. We enjoyed the view walk more than Cecil Rhodes! We would have found a price list and clarity on what we were being charged for helpful, though it was not overpriced, just not clear. We felt the cleaning staff should time their well done work for after one has left for the day. Stunning location.

This is a wonderful place that you shouldn't miss if you are around Bulawayo. We spent only one night at the lodge and would love to come back again to spend more time. The lodge has amazing surroundings and if you can convince yourself to get out of bed early you can enjoy beautiful sunrises.
The room and food has a high standard and all the staff is great. Friendly and helpful all the time and you feel at home. We had the pleasure to do activities with Sam and Roy and they are both very good guides.

The camp lodge capped an overall rewarding experience to the Matopos. I stayed in one of the chalets and enjoyed every minute of the serene, spectacular environment. Despite not seeing much game in a park hard hit by poachers, Sam made the park tour both interesting and informative from a historical and natural perspective. The meals (B-fast, lunch (picnic) and dinner were homemade and delicious ... though a bit meager in quantity given the cost. Enjoy Matopos!!

Room Tip: Get a chalet at the top of the hill for best viewing.

The camp itself is really well situated, on the outcrop with individual views and beautifully presented rooms. But what makes this camp outstanding was Sam's guided tour - his knowledge of and interest in local history and plants made it an engrossing two hours.

Modern day Zimbabwe sits atop the confluence of overlapping historical events from the bushmen, through the rise and fall of trade routes, all the way through to the 19th Century scramble for gold and control of Southern Africa. At Big Cave you can get your teeth into them all - bushmen paintings, iron workings, hidden granaries, Shona spiritualism and later Ndebele spiritualism. It sets you up brilliantly for a trip on to Matopos Park and Rhodes Grave (and Mzilikazi's grave if you observe the correct protocol). That's just the history, ask him about the plant life too.

If you're a history fundi, or even if you don't yet know how important Zimbabwe was historically, heartily recommend Big Cave.

Thank you so much taking the time to review Big Cave. It is really motivating for the staff and guides to know that you appreciated the knowledge that was imparted on your trip to Rhodes Grave. Guiding in our opinion is a terribly important part of any safari! Well done Sam, you have really shone!! Best Regards Dave

I will never forget my stay here. From the friendliness of Roy and Sam to the experience of Ian Harmer this place is definitely the heart of Zimbabwe. The hot showers were not bad either. I would have loved to stay longer. If you are there in the future, be sure to ask Roy why everyone loves Jack.

We stayed partly in the lodge, partly on the new opened campsite. Both are wonderful. The lodge has great rooms and is great as location is about. The campsite is really perfect if you want that little bit more comfort (bar at campsite) and service. Sitting in the evening with a drink around the open fire under the massive rocks, walking on the massive rocks around the lodge with spectacular views in the morning,...
Part of our group went on a guided walking trip in the Matobe hill park to discover the paintings and wonderful views. Others (myself and...) went on a walking safari with close encounter of 2 white rhinos.
We would like to thank the team for the wonderful stay we enjoyed
