“Our First Visit Was Great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

Made the drive up from Albany for a concert at The Civic Center on a Wedesday night. Parking was crazy and the restaurants all seemed to be doing a brisk business. We noticed the Downtown City tavern from the parking area and made our way over. It was about 6PM and there was quite a crowd. The hostess seated us at what appeared to be the last table. What was nice to see was that the table could have sat several more people than our group of 4 but we were given the table anyway (thanks). 3 of us had burgers which were delicious and fires which were equally tasty. Menu has plenty to choose from (maybe pizza next time) and the prices are much better than other restaurants and brew pubs in the area. Service was great and we were in and out in plenty of time to get to the show. We will definitely visit here again!

“Great, fresh food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

We've gone twice in one week and were extremely pleased with our experiences. Great for groups or couples. Pizza is delicious as well as the wings, roasted calamari and salads. Highly recommended for a casual night out. Service was great, too!

“Burgers, Pizza, Wings & Craft Brews.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2013

That just about covers the menu. Yes, if you check the appetizers or the soup and salad sections of the menu you will find some other enticing dishes, but you will probably most certainly order something from the BPW sections.

The restaurant is located in the former location of the Boston Candy Kitchen, most famous for its peanut butter ribbon candy, especially after being nationally recognized by Martha Stewart. Two of the large marble work-tops used in the candy making process have been saved and turned into dining tables.

The pizzas are cooked in a brick-oven using Adirondack sugar maple wood (not coal) according to the menu. There are 14 red pizza combinations and 6 white listed. I didn't notice anywhere that you cold request your own combination, but I'd be surprised if they refused. So many of the combinations that they designed themselves sound inviting.

I think there may have been eight taps available for beer. Several were different IPAs. We started with 16 oz. pints of Founders Centennial ($7) and Ithaca Cascazilla ($6). We also shared the Oven Baked Tavern Meatballs ($7) from the appetizers - house made blend of beef and pork, served in a savory tomato gravy with tavern toast. The five meatballs had a lot of flavor and the thick slices of toast were great for wiping the oven pan clean of the delicious tomato sauce.

Since the pizzas are about 12 inches in diameter, we figured we could order two, especially since there were so many different combinations offered that were crying out to us. So, one white and one red. The di Parma ($14) - prosciutto, arugula, shaved parmesan, house mozzarella, and parmesan fondue. A beautiful sight to look at when it arrived and really tasty. The crust is thin, but not super thin like the "cracker-bottoms" you get from some wood-fired pizzerias. So you should not expect to find the bottom crispy.

My red pizza selection was the Fennel Sausage ($12) - house made fennel sausage, house blend mozzarella, and crushed tomato. I also chose an option on the menu that could be applied to any pizza at no additional cost - a garlic parmesan crust. They rub the raw formed dough with garlic infused oil and parmesan before adding the toppings and baking. This was a nice option, the garlic did not overpower the sausage with its nice fennel flavor nor the flavor of the crushed tomatoes.

We ended up taking home half of each pizza. Service was friendly and helpful in making our choices from so many delicious sounding combinations. Next time we are in the area it's going to be tough making a decision on trying more combinations of pizza or going for some of the wings with their unique sauces, or trying one of their burgers. In addition to angus beef burgers, they even offer a ground lamb burger and a portobello mushroom burger. The angus patties are available in both half and quarter pound sizes.

My only fault with DTCT is the size of their cloth napkins - MUCH to small! They wouldn't even cover a child's lap. But we'll be back.

“Great Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

My husband told me about this place. We decided to go with another couple. It was really nice. The place has a cozy feeling and the food was great! We really enjoyed the wings. You didn't have to use any of the dippings if you didn't want to. They were delicious! We also order 3 types of the wood fired pizza. We loved the garlic garlic one. Great food, Great service and A really good time.
