“Three Generations of the Our Family Dine in Fine Style”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2014

Going to René's for dinner is always an occasion for our family, but last night it was truly special for it was the eve of our grandchild's first day at college. His wish for dinner that night was going to René's, so off we went!
We have been dining at René's since his days in Chestertown. He has never failed to present the most delicious fare, and he didn't fail us last night! We started with his traditional Potato and Leek Soup, absolutely the best anywhere! Our two teenagers then chose the pork, wrapped in prosciutto, while the rest of us chose from a very fine chicken and shrimp dish, a tasty special of salmon over shrimp risotto, a specially prepared ahi tuna, cooked to perfection, and the traditional Wienerschitzel, over homemade spaetzle. René did not disappoint! And although we were more than content with our dining experience, starting with the homemade humus and dipping oil to the main course, we couldn't leave without taking home one of his desserts, notably the Marscapone with Macadamia nuts soufflé - absolutely heavenly!!! Our server could not have been more attentive and helpful!
We were so pleased our college bound youngster chose René's for this special occasion, for it was perhaps, the most delicious meal we've ever had there, and that's saying a lot!!! Now we're hoping his course of study will bring him as much success as he had in choosing René's last night!

“Hidden Gem in Glens Falls, New York!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2014

If you are in the vicinity of Glens Falls, New York, be sure to make a reservation for Rene's. Plan on an earlier dinner- before 8pm. Located on a side street in Glens Falls, Rene's is located in a small cozy house which is tastefully decorated and comfortable. Our meal started with homemade hummus. We shared a few appetizers to try everything they had to offer. The homemade gravlax was delicious. The shrimp and chicken dumplings were in a tasty, slightly spicy peanut sauce. The wiener schnitzel was terrific, served with homemade spaetzle. Try the Creme brûlée for dessert. The service was very good- we were not rushed through our meal. Don't forget to bring your favorite bottles of wine-Rene's is a BYO. There is no bar. When the check came, we were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable it was- certainly a good value for a enjoyable evening!

“Wonderful dinner in a very cozy atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

My wife and I were finally able to make it to Rene's, as we've been wanting to try it for some time. As others have said, you do need a reservation as there are only 6 or 7 tables in a converted house. The dinning rooms (sort of 2 rooms that were connected with a large walkway) are decorated very nicely, with very appealing paintings on the walls. It was nice to walk in and see our name on a place card on the table, knowing our reservations were well thought out. It is BYOB (bring your own bottle) - of beer or wine, which is wonderful - and I was very surprised to see they do not charge any "corking fee" as many other establishments do. The service is top notch - with only one server for the rooms, she did a wonderful job. We had a starter of the dumplings - which surprised us the way they were served - in a curry flavored noodle dish - but I must say, they were excellent. The menu had many choices we would have loved to try - but decided on the veal over spaetzle and the grilled chicken and shrimp. We ordered both as the big plates (as most come in half and full), but probably should have gone for the small ones, as we had food to bring home. You could tell the food was prepared fresh which was very nice to have. The risotto that the chicken and shrimp was served on, was very flavorful - a Parmesan flavored one. The chicken was tender and juicy. The veal dish was able to be cut with a fork. For dessert, we tried the creme brulee and the pot de chocolate - both of which were excellent - a nice close to the meal. And the price for this night out could not be beat - starter, 2 mains (full sizes) and 2 desserts - $65. The BYOB policy allowed us to have a fantastic wine along with our dinner. We will be back soon as we would like to try the duck and salmon mains that we saw on the menu. Great to have a restaurant like this here in Glens Falls. Well done all around.

“Was expecting more”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

We had a party of 7 for a birthday celebration and overall had a good time. Our waitress, which attentative was a little over the top with her personality, bordering on annoying. The food wasn't bad, but I didn't hear anyone saying this was the best meal they've had in a while or such. My risotto with shrimp and scallops was fine. The risotto needed a little seasoning and the scallops would have been better left whole rather than butterflied, which tended to dry then out a little. Nice place and probably worth a return visit, but I'd head to Tallulah first. One good thing is that it's a BYOB.

“Good, but not as good as old Rene's”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2014 via mobile

We went to Rene's after hearing that he has reopened at a new location, we went to the new place and we're sad to find that some of our favorites were not on the menu, service was ok being that there was one server that was clearly in the weeds thru out the night and really could have used some help.food was very good but we were looking for the old flavor of chestertown. Temperature in the dining room was very hot which made it very uncomfortable.
