Our Swiss/French based dinner at Rene's was truly a meal to remember. First, the quaint little place is hidden in a quiet residential area of Glens Falls, but not too difficult to find and adequate off street parking in the rear. The tables and decor are both nice and unique. Our server was so polite and helpful with detailed description of the many offerings in the menu. We settled for a shared salad and soup, which were both delicious and enough for both of us. We both opted for their risotto based plates: one seafood and the other a grilled chicken/shrimp combination. The risotto was the best we have ever had in years, NOT the usual overly rich and greasy versions. The shrimps and seafood had delicate flavors that complemented the risotto very well. However, the flavor of the barbecue sauce that was on the grilled slices of chicken breast clashed with the delicate flavors of the risotto and the jullienned vegetables. It was possible to scrape the barbecue sauce off the chicken pieces, which I did, and this made a big improvement in the blending of flavors in the dish. We couldn't resist having dessert, and found their version of creme brulee uniquely delicious; caramelized thin slices of bananas topped the creme brulee.
Finally, an added bonus to the fantastic value of the delicious dishes is the BYOB. The place is definitely worth a trip to Glens Falls, especially if you want quality Swiss/French and great value for your hard earned dinner $. We noticed that the place also has a repeat clientele and it is only open for lunch and dinner a few days of the week, so before you go, make sure to call first.
