The beauty, wildness and how close to nature you can get.
The perfect campsite for viewing wild animals as it is the only water for miles around.

“Self drive Nyamepi Mana Pools/Chipindo Pools Gonarezhou Zimbabwe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

We crossed the border at Pafuri and drove on the borderline between Mozambique and Zimbabwe and entering Zimbabwe at Chiqualaquala - Gonarezhou National Park awaits you- Chipindo Pools Campsite which is on the Runde River - elephants plenty and many other animals- including lions and wild dogs - gravel roads are not at bad and scenery is great with the Chilojo Hills an amazing picture, camp site over looking the river bed and the cliffs-then onto to Gweru and Antelope Park a very good overnight stop and then the long road up to Marangora where you get the permit for Mana Pools (this must be collected before 15h00 otherwise you cannot proceed until the following morning) The another 7 kms before the turn off to Mana Pools- After you turn off onto the gravel road and go through the first gate - you relax - the main road to Chirundu border post between Zambia/Zimbabwe is very busy with large trucks and the road narrow, lots of bends and turns, up hills and downhills-many accident wreckages (looks like the roads in Tanzania). We spent 4 days in Mana Pools camped on the Zambezi at Nyamepi Camp. Very clean camp, abultions good, staff friendly, roads good, large herds of game alot of elephants but as can be expected terrain very dry in September. Lions, hyena, elephant, buffalo roam the camp site bringing you back to the wild side. The 2 hour canoe trip was also amazing -silently cruising past the hippo's .Zimbabwe looks good but we found the road blocks very frustrating - sometimes 3 in 2 kilometers- all asking the same questions -just make sure you have all your papers and equipment is correct and keep your cool- but as l said most frustrating and l think it puts many people off going back. If you could get a copy of the offences it could help -as we were told at 3 road blocks it was an affence to have a dirty car but we heard from a citezen of Zimbabwe that it applies to commerical vehicles -so we need to have the facts- although a person is afraid to stand your ground in another country. Anyway in the end looking back on the photo's the negative comes second to the experiences and siteings we had.

“Touring the park and canoeing the Zambezi!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

We spent five days in Mana Pools and had an excellent time thanks to our guide, Nick Murray. We roamed the park, "played" with elephants and canoed the Zambezi River for three days with the hippos and crocs. It was VERY exciting and we felt perfectly safe the entire trip. The accommodations were perfect and the food was excellent as was the service.

“Wonderful experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

Not quite as luxury as across the Zambezi in one of those lodges of the Zambian side, but Zimbabwe has been though such a rough couple of decades that lodges at Mana Pools have definitely lost the prestige they had in the 80s and 90s and are in need of upgrade and... tender loving care.
Lots of animals, elephants, hippos, hyenas, baboons, kudus, crocs, buffaloes, impalas, waterbucks ... you name it! It remains an absolute fantastic African experience if you're not after absolute comfort, if you like the 'old fashioned' camping styles where you still have to bring everything along and cater for yourself. Great staff, very helpful and dedicated despite lack of means.
